For long trips I have some metal ammo boxes (from military surplus) which I store on the roof. In these boxes are bits and pieces which do not require regular use, e.g. spare parts and recovery gear. I made a metal strap to secure the boxes to the roofrack with a padlock, so I can leave them on the roofrack when the vehicle is left unattended. Storage boxes with parts for daily use (food, camping gear) are stored inside the vehicle. Cheers, Vincent
