Has anyone encountered this before? I have stripped and repainted a set of 2008 front doors, all upper parts (spacers, gutters and waist seals are brand new Genuine).
When I went to fit the exterior waist seal, it appears that the door has a "bow" in the middle, so it doesn't contact the seal. The old seal seemed to have no issues. Has anyone seen this before? wondering if the skin could have come un-bonded from the frame at the top???? Next step is to go back and tear it down and try to figure it out.... but I figure I would see if anyone has experienced this before. Seems to be close to 6mm. The other door is about a 3mm bow, but the seal fits fine.
Bought them about a year and a half ago from a breaker in Dorset. it's a Landrover thing... my renovation thread: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic40792.html |

Do you think there was damage due to force of impact? That may have caused it if it was accident damaged.

Is it just the skin or the frame too that is bowed? I think my td5 doors have a small rivet in the middle of the top edge of the skin holding it to the frame under the waist seal. Ray

I'm going to take off the window regulator and pop the glass out tonight and have a look. There is a bit of play (I can squeeze the skin and frame together and get movement of the skin) couple mm at least.

If you can move it back together then it should be okay to sort out.
Providing as above the door frame it's self fits okay. Good luck.  |

Stripped down the door, and definitely there's a crown in the middle. The frame is straight, didn't look like any previous collision damage.... but the blob of bonding adhesive in the middle was so thick, it looked like it may have been creating the issue...oh well, onto a solution. (build tolerance?)
Slipped a hacksaw blade between the skin and frame to remove and release the existing bonding agent. Did a dry run with 2 clamps and a couple blocks of wood, and it looks like with a little pressure it comes down nice and even. Used a 3M 2 part epoxy bonding agent ( http://3mcollision.com/3m-automix-universa...black.html ) borrowed from the bodyshop down the alley.
Click image to enlarge They use this stuff for bonding steel and aluminum in collision repair. Tested it out on 2 pieces of aluminum. After 30 minutes, they were permanently attached, wow, this stuff is AMAZING! All fixed and ready to go!!
