United Kingdom 2003 Defender 110 Td5 G4 LE Zambezi Silver
Drivetrain Clonks
Don't wish to teach anyone to suck eggs, but this is what worked for me. My 1990 90HT had the usual slack and clonk during gear changes from over 25 years of use. After looking around online for various remedies, some of which were extreme and expensive, I did the following;

New A frame ball joint and bracket - £38
New uj's on front and rear props and greased with heavy duty red grease - £62

Result - the complete drive train is like new, no clonks on gear changes up or down and this on a 200 tdi with 230,000 miles on it on original axles, gearbox and transfer box. Cheap fix and hope it helps Smile

The A frame has been a nuisance for this on a regular basis it crops up as being a culprit.

It's even an issue sometimes on Puma's too, especially higher miles.

The rear damper / shocker lower bushes can also give issues moving off and stopping clunking due to weight shift and knackered bushes.
