Air Con Servicing?
How often should the air con be serviced? My Defenders due its first service soon, spoken to a couple of dealers, one recommended it serviced every year the other recommends every two years?

Once a year should be good. It's enough time that you can have any crud in the cooling coil cleaned out so it will remain efficient and won't ice up. Our Defenders do not come with a cabin filter so regular cleaning is REALLY a must! Also, the yearly cleaning will also allow you to have the system inspected to make sure you can nip any potential problems in the bud.

Remember, asides from the cleaning, make sure they check the compressor oil level as well.

The refrigerant should be taken out when the coil is cleaned anyways so you should have it at the proper level when you get it back.

I hope this helps.

Are you talking about cleaning the inside of the evaporator coil (where the gas/liquid is) or the outside of the coil where the air passes over. On a defender cleaning the outside would entail removing the dash and heater box - every year? 1995 300tdi Defender 90 P/UP

Removing the dash to get into the evap etc is about a 7 hour job. Believe me....I've just had a new evap fitted and I'm still hurting. Big Cry

Hi nickhodgson, yes, I'm talking about the one on the inside. The one on the outside can be hosed out. And yes, every year. A pain in the butt for sure but a necessary evil unless you can improvise a cabin filter set up to minimize the amount of dust that gets sucked in from the cabin.
