Puma Heater
Happy New Year All!

The heater on my 07MY Puma is positively volcanic in its output and with a significant difference in temperature between the passenger and drivers side (drivers side runs cooler) when on mid-setting. It doesn't seem to run much cooler until the dial is well into the blue area and then there is a significant temperature drop.

The temperature gauge reading is normal and the coolant level in the expansion tank is fine.

Is it just a Defender foible or something to worry about?

Many thanks,

Peter Defender 11MY USW

I think there is a known problem with the heater that makes it do that, im sure somebody whos had it fixed will be alone soon!

There is a fix somewhere on here for heater output difference - do a search - which involves removing the heater matrix and covering part of it in aluminium foil.

My dealer measured a difference of 2C between the passenger and drivers side on mine, and then measured several other Pumas and found them all to exhibit the same problem

I haven't actually tried the fix yet myself (can't be arsed to remove the heater matrix atm) but it causes problems for me (driver) and mrs (passenger) as she notices the cold quicker then me anyway - if the problem was the other way round it would be a definite positive feature!

Yes, it's a Defender foible!

But have an instruction named: "Heater Core Combing Process", I have it buto don't know how to post it.

Mine do the same, but the drivers side is hotter (because its left hand), I didn't do this "process" and don't know if it works 100%.

It's another Land Rover thing!!!

cheers

if you open your window a tiny bit and put it on 0 ,: a venturi effect will suck air out of your truck , and in return sucks air into your heater ...

or

-solder an extra resistor and switch between it

- you could even do with a potentiometer - so you will get total control Discovery 4 SDV6 Landmark

Mine does exactly the same thing.

The service bulletin is SSM39653, see:-

http://www.defender2.co.uk/gallery/albums/...er_fix.pdf

However this is stated to be applicable to LHD vehicles only, and mine is a 2007 RHD (on mine the passenger (ie left) side air is much hotter than the drivers (ie right) side).

Anyone know if SSM39653 is also applicable to RHD vehicles, or if there is an equivalent modification?
