Snorkel questions...
OK, so seeing more and more adventure pictures I quite like the look....

1) Do they create wind noise (should that read more wind noise than normal)
2) Do they get in the way of your view from the side at all
3) Easy to fit... how many drills
4) for a Puma is a Mantec the one to go for.

any other factors to consider?

Removed my Mantec as don't intend going that deep and it did reduce wind noise a little and improve visibility.

Suspect the plastic jobby is a little more aerodynamic though.

Answers to the best of my knowledge...

1) Very little that I have heard of.

2) Please see above.

3) Only one if you use a step drill bit, a set can be bought for a tenner.

4) Not exactly, some do others don't. Depends on personal preference, you'll never get an agreement on this. Laughing

Me personally, I've got a Safari soon to fit.

Safari's are Snorkels which are raised intakes and designed to be watertight, if all other inlet piping is fully sealed and watertight once fitted.
Of course very few of us are going to wade in water that delth but good peace of mind.

A Mantec is similar but a RAI which is purely a raised air intake and not designed to be watertight but many have mentioned you can seal it.

I went for the Safari because it's proven in Aus in arduous conditions and well known around the world for all makes.

The second mod I did to the Puma.

1) I haven't noticed any wind noise (I have the Mantec Plastic Jobby as its referred to)
2) The plastic jobby is a triangular shape and so hides behind the window frame beautifully, even when i lean forward to see it or to thee side, I can barely see it, and I mean barely.
3) Mantec is two drill holes above the standard air intake and one or two (think one) on the window frame. I also sealed mine with some standard sealant
4) The plastic jobby is fantastic although there are a few brands out there. I have had no issues at all with mine.

As always, worth tightening up all the screws / bolts etc after a short drive. Also, I would recommend checking there are no cables caught/running behind the intended drill hole on the window frame. I think i had some and just moved them aside.
It doesn't leak or anything.

Hope this helps

Michael

Hi Stacey,

I've got my Landy an Entreq Snorkel for Christmas and it's absolutely fantastic. To your questions:

1. No, no wind noise from the RAI, but thanks to the cyclone filter on mine, there is a nice air intake sound when accelerating. WildCard90 described it earlier in another thread as some kind of hissing.
2. Absolutely not. Mine is visible from the inside, but I never thougt of it being in the way. Scraping ice and cleaning the windscreen got a little bit awkward after installing it, but nothing really to worry about...
3. The Entreq snorkel was as easy to install as it gets. About half an hour and 0 drills and you're done. The fact that the Entreq snorkel requires no extra holes and uses the attachment points from the fake windscreen hinges was the major argument for me to spend the extra money on it (apart from the Entreq quality of course).
4. If you have the money, I would go for the Entreq one without any question.

Greetings from the Alps,

Thor44

I fitted a gen LR raised air intake (same as the adventure) I found on my 110 that it actually reduced the wind or turbulence noise that I got from the edge of the guttering by the drivers door. Can just about see it behind the windscreen frame, but certainly doesn't affect visability. It was easy to fit too, two holes drilled and riv nuts in the wing and two holes drilled in the window frame.

I have a Mantec plastic jobby and have never heard any wind noise (its pretty aero dynamic to be honest) and it does not affect visibility.

TIP - before drilling the windscreen surround, put some masking take along the top edge of the wing (to cover the gap between inner and out wings) to avoid any swarfe getting in there - which is next to impossible to get out. Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

No feedback, odd description, and no indication if it's for a Puma or TD5, but maybe worth posing a few questions?
Proceed with caution, but also maybe grab a bargain?
