Hi guys
I've recently bought a set of Matt Lee 16x8 Mach 5's. Im planning on running 285/75/16 BFG KO2's with them. These will be going on my 90 which is standard height. Am I likely to have any clearance issues with these? Im also concerned about them sticking out past the standard arches. Cheers |

i have 285/65/R18, lowered about 1.5" and no issues.

I've just whacked a set of 285/75's and Mach 5's on my standard height 90, no adjustments, no problems

I'm running with 305/70/16 on my Mach 5s no issues here either.

Thanks for your help guys. They're genuine Mach 5's but Im not sure what offset they are, will have a look tomorrow.

This is my 90 running 285's on challenger offset rims. They definitely rubbed the wheel arch spat when articulated as I found out about 50 yards after the video ended 😀 |

I've got 2 defenders. 1 is running 285s and the other 305s. I'd recommend 285s any day. 305 are a lot wider. I think 285 look better though. Photos in my recent forum intro thread.

Morning Will, Mach 5s..... 16x8 have an offset of ET0, so will quite happily take tyre sizes from 235 up to 305/16 no problems and no adjustments required as stated by Russ. Challenger steels IMHO have the most horrendous offset I've seen and the quality of their finish is to be avoided unless things have improved drastically. I went 305s after I had seen pictures of Camelman's old truck which looked fantastic, I touched base with him and after finding he had experienced no issues took the plunge myself. It can be a brave move to steer away from the standard common colour choices of silver, white (not so common on anything but Wolfs or Modulars), black or anthracite. I chose quite carefully and I am happy with the result which is the most important thing. Be interesting to see where you go on this. I would also advise with such big boots and nice wheels to consider using dynamic balancing beads in lieu of weights. The zinc style weights (and you may need a few) turn black over time and they too can begin to corrode or fall off the rim. These are a few I took off my old set of Mach 5s. Challenger rims pretty much sit flush with the arch. I'm running 285s and the do poke outside the arches slightly. 235 would probably be flush and maybe 265 would be flush or a tiny bit outside. I can't comment on quality past but the ones I picked up recently seem pretty good for the money. They are only 16x7 though so 305 probably wouldn't fit. There's a lot of people out there running 16x7 et0 modulars with 30mm spacers to bring their wheels/tyres flush. I guess the -30 challengers achieves this without the spacer. They are a lot cheaper than Mach 5. I guess you normally get what you pay for. I'm assuming Mach 5s are lighter and better made.

Challengers do sit flush I agree but the rims being only 7" the void behind them looks strange with their offset. My 305s sit perfectly flush with the arch. Mach 5s are no more, the steel ones production stopped about 2 years ago. The second and third generation ones are extremely well made and heavy as hell. There were reports of some of the first generation Mach 5 rims cracking, not drastically but evident by the tyre not holding air. I believe the edge of the wheel was redesigned to a rolled edge to counter this?
Personally I think they are the best looking wheel out there that is why they have been copied so much. A set for sale does not hang about for very long and still command good money due to their rarity. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Does no one have any clearance issues as per 1st post? Yes they fit but surely they will rub on the wheel arch spat as soon as you get a bit of movement looking at the gap between top of tyre and arch ?

Yes mine rub on the spat when cornering any harder than normal (front). That may just be due to weak soft springs on my td5. I'm absolutely certain they will rub the arches hard with and kind of decent off roading.

Thanks everyone for the photos and info. Mal, I agree with what you're saying about the challengers. I was originally looking at buying a set but was put off by what people have said about the quality of them. Thankfully I managed to pick up the Mach 5's second hand which worked out to be cheaper than a set of new Challengers.
Colour wise I wanted to go with something a bit different from the usual but didn't want anything thats too in your face. I'll probably chicken out last minute and go with anthracite.  |
