Vulcan Assistants
Now the defender has also been officially retired, would this work as a good way for me to fund my land rover maintenance...

"One of the exciting and interesting additional offerings we will introduce this year during regular scheduled maintenance activities on XH558, will be the ability for members of the public to pay to join the engineers under close supervision as ‘Vulcan Assistants’, effectively providing additional man-power during some of the regular maintenance tasks, such as tyre inflation, oil and gas monitoring, landing gear lubrication and structural and wiring inspections across the entire aircraft which will also include a system functional.

Please ensure you wear suitable clothing for working in an engineering environment, clothes may become dirty. Suitable footwear will be required.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided during the day."

Being an aircraft engineer myself I wouldn't want to go back to doing those jobs, they become very boring very quickly. As exciting as the first week would be I wouldn't want to do it long term unless there was a chance to climb the ladder a bit so you get to do more than pump tyres up and clean.

Just my 2ps worth Thumbs Up

So this magnificent aircraft is still flying?
I thought that the Vulcan had been grounded for costs reasons.

Not sure if this has been posted before, and apologies for going slightly off topic, but I thought they make a great combination...

Grounded now but still able to do fast taxi runs - as can at least one other Vulcan, and maybe more.

I think it ran out of airframe hours in the end, that together with the withdrawl of support from some of the engineering companies they relied upon to manage the airworthiness.

Sad to see this in the news today:

The Vulcan to the Sky charity have been unable to meet the fundraising deadline to raise the £2.2m needed to progress plans to build The Vulcan Experience at Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

I think it was Rolls Royce, or BAe (can't recall which) who effectively inherited the airworthiness responsibility through the various companies that followed on from Avro. They were unwilling to continue to shoulder any responsibility should there be an accident so withdrew their "approval" for want of a better word. There was no mechanical reason it had to stop flying I don't think. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

The issue they had with the undercarriage didn’t help, it flew for the time it was expected to fly for, after Shoreham there was little appetite to take any risks with a highly complex ageing aircraft that always struggled to meet its funding targets. It was the right time to call it quits.
