Best option for controling kenlowe fan.
Hi all, I've got a kenlowe fan on my 130 which has the kenlowe controller which I don't think is great.
What other options do you recommend?

Thanks Chris.

I've fitted Kenlowe fans to classic cars before and never had any success with their standard sensor as I could never get a perfect seal for the capillary tube/hose assembly. I've used ones similar to that recommended by FCX and found it an ideal, leak free solution. I also think it looks a more professional job, the capillary tube passing under the hose and jubilee clip always looked a bit heath robinson IMHO. Defender 90XS SW

Thanks, I take it that it would be the 34mm I need to go in my bottom hose.

Has the Kenlowe kit not moved on over the years?

I remember that poor sealing arrangement from many years ago - always annoyed me that whenever I opened the bonnet the stain from the coolant weeping from the seal was always the first thing I saw.

Other than that the kit worked very well.

I fitted a Kenlowe to my 90 when I bought it in a fit of naivety. The supplied thermostat triggered whenever it got wet, so no good for splashing about off road or even in puddles. Fitted an X-Fan and problem solved.

Came to my senses and refitted the viscous later on. The only benefit of the electric unit was the space in the engine bay afforded by not having the cowling in place.

My 130 came with it fitted. I had a kenlowe fan and there controller fitted to my disco for 7 years. I was never confident that it was set at the right temperature but I never really pushed it hard or do long distance towing so wasn't that bothered. As I'm in the process of putting my engine back together after having to have a new head as the old one had cracked, I want to make sure it all stays cool.

Hi MuddyChris. There is another option, you could use a Davies Craig thermostatic fan switch which uses a probe in the air flow from the radiator. It also has an adjustable setting as well so you can fine tune it to the exact temperature you require. If you are looking for various options then Google both of these - Merlin Motorsports and Demon Tweeks. Both are good places to start. Defender 90XS SW
