I've changed by 2011 Pickup utility steering wheel like-for-like from Paddocks.
Removing the old one was a b*g**r but after some great advice from here (such as leaving the centre nut on loose so it doesn't hit you in the face!) I changed it over today. Then I went out and noticed that the indicators didn't cancel? So I fished the old one out of the bin and there are a couple of metal pins coming out of the old one that the new one didn't have. A quick email to Paddocks and they phoned me straight back (great service) and said that the prongs show on their diagrams as a separate part and I should remove from the old steering wheel and replace on the new one. As they don't sell this part and its c.£25 from a main dealer, what's the best way of removing it without breaking? Does it fit on a thread or has it just "welded" itself onto the spline of the steering wheel and just needs a good thump? I've gently tried both of these approaches but thought someone on here would know rather than me breaking one of the prongs. The photo of the offending piece is in the gallery below Thanks on advance of any replies |

Those prongs are part of the wheel and can't be removed. I think they've sold you a 2015 onwards steering wheel. Ray

Thanks mk1collector - I've emailed Paddocks with this information.

I've spoken to Paddocks again and they say that the piece shows (no2 on the attached diagram) as an additional part and therefore should come off the old steering wheel? They say that the steering wheel is for 2007 onwards in the part catalogue
So, does t ring a bell with anyone who's taken one of the two pronged things off before or else I guess I'll have to go and buy one form a dealership. |

Well, I've not seen that before. I must be mistaken. Ray

I've decided to go back to the drawing board with this and send it back to Paddocks
So, any recommendations for a replacement steering wheel for my 2011 Defender 90, 48 spline, which cancels the indicators and is easy to fit? |

Hi Alun, just going back to the beginning, I assume this is your old wheel with prongs:
![]() Click image to enlarge These are not removable as they are part of the machined boss. Earlier wheels have a cancelling ring as a separate part which is made of sprung steel, so it grips the steering wheel boss tightly: ![]() Click image to enlarge It's part number NRC7636 and £9 from a LR dealer before any discount. Not £25 ![]() Any photo of your new wheel before you send it back? The 2015MY wheel reverse looks like this, there is nowhere to fit a cancelling prong bit: ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() ![]() |

Martin,
Thanks very much for the thorough reply! I was just logging back on to close the thread as I'd managed to find the snap link yesterday and picked it up from the dealer this morning. £8.70 with the VAT. So all sorted now!! ![]() Many thanks again Alun |

Not all of us like the aftermarket wheels, and not only because of the price

Agree Martin - my Defender is a working vehicle so a Momo or Startech wheel would be overkill
