IMO,I would hand paint them with satin Rustoleum,it's tougher, easier to recoat when you get stone chips and you can easily get a good finish with a roller, you can buy rough textured paint anorl, think it's called "Bedliner". Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.

The rivets look pretty industrial to me, I wouldn't want to be setting them by hand.

When I had my steps re powder coated and the ends welded with a metal disc to get rid of the plastic cap I just used rivnuts and stainless steel Allen head bolts to re attach the chequer plate, that way I can take them off to clean any time I want,
Also fill them with waxoil as well |

I had mine powder coated and they lasted well for about a year and a half but then it started to wear off, so I'd say anodise them or (as I've been looking into new driveway gates lately) por15 which is very very strong if applied correctly. Ray

The rivets take a bit of drilling, I did mine off the car.
The holes are around 5/6mm so just enough to get a spray of waxoil/rust preventer. I also took the plastic end caps off and plastered the inside with waxoil. The bars really rust from the inside out so you need to keep the drain holes clear. Best to use rivnuts to attach as then you can remove as redo. 110XS CSW TD5. |
