2007 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Java Black
Side Steps
Hi all,

Time to either refurbish or replace - been advised that to get them looking the best as they are powder coated they would need to be media blasted before refinishing incl removal of chequer plate. They are not in terrible condition but do spoil the appearance when on the rare occasion the wagon is fully cleaned.

Original tubular version with chequer plate flat tops riveted on.

Question is for almost the same price I could just purchase a new OE pair and sell the old ones for refurb by someone with more time than me!

Any recommendations outside of OE parts or do I push the boat out and go for something like the Masai version?

thanks in advance!

If you are looking for a new set, here is an option..
http://www.rock-sliders.co.uk/landrover-de...iders.html

They are very heavy duty and a good fit (i'm not selling them, i just have a set on my 90).

ive had those on mine for a few years and can vouch for the build quality (after 3 years of off road abuse). they are extremely sturdy.

The only thing id say is that the powder coat isnt great and wont stand up to being scraped across rocks etc. Mine got rubbed through and then quickly bubbled and surface rust. Im either going to buy a new set from him and see what galv options there are, or have them blasted and galv'd locally.

What's the fit on them like ?

I've seen some sliders that looked a bit of a ropey fit - with gaps between the bodywork etc.

The rock sliders ones are a pretty good fit. equal front to back gap. Mine are nearly a year old and holding up well to tree/rock/foot rash. The coating seems quite thick on mine.

Pay a bit more and get the galvanised and powder coated Safari Equipment rock and tree sliders would be my advice.

I got mine from First Four - easy fit and very strong. http://www.firstfour.co.uk/search?qs=rock&x=4&y=7
Non slip top ideal for access to the roof rack. They also do Galv ones.
Protects the sides well in car parks - very satisfying to see bits of paint on them! Twisted Evil

http://www.rock-sliders.co.uk/landrover-de...iders.html these guys can't do galvanised but can do bare metal (obviously) so I guess you can get it donne yourself but no idea of the cost. To be fair, I was well impressed with a reply within a couple of hours and they do seem great value compared to others, for those of us with older trucks?

Are you actually referring to the side steps rather than a set of rock sliders?

Yes side steps sorry - realised yesterday that my terminology was a little off the mark. Those are the exact ones and still torn between keeping it original or aftermarket.

Thanks all for info and comments.

Anyone used these guys before?

We don't do any "rough stuff" so for use,...access etc, the O.E. items are excellent.

Bit the bullet and have ordered and received new ones so old ones will be coming off ASAP and advertised for sale through the official channels on here. 110 OE tubular with chequer plate tops. Will require refurb.

I'm really tempted by the sidesteps.co.uk offering but they can't galvanise and I think that would look better on my 90 (even thuigh as a rule I would always prefer black!) so, if I bought them in bare metal (no discount available to have them not powder coated) what should I budget to get them galvanised? Rob
