Oil change
Chums,

Oil service light came on and I am planning to do the Oil/filter change DIY. Have looked at 'Mermoto's' always instructional videos on line and am wondering whether I should/need be doing just the oil/filter or should I also be doing transmission, diff, fuel filter as well? It is a 2.2 Puma on 125k kms, last service was at 90k by a dealer in Nov 2014. Is there anyway of finding out what is necessary as per LR Maintenance Schedule, or whether you more experienced lot think it is just a matter of good policy to do the everything?

Planned for Sunday, but will need to pick up oils/filters etc this afternoon.

Help and advice, as always, much appreciated

Cow Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

LR Maintenance Schedule is on here somewhere, pretty sure I posted a copy - but can't find it now!

If this is the 1st time you are doing any of it, then I'd do it all. You can never be sure what others have actually done and it sets a nice datum to do future services off.

You would need to go through your service record from the dealer to find out what was done. Having said that some people on this site think that the intervals stated by Land Rover for transferbox and gearbox fluid changes are too far apart. I'd do my transferbox and gearbox every two years at the latest. You might as well do the diffs as well. You do a lot of miles( well kms ) so do your filters yearly. There is a lot of fuel goes through your filter in that time so it would be no harm to change it.
If you start now with a complete gearbox, transfer box oil change, diffs, engine oil and filter, diesel and airfilter, next year (12 months) you can just do the engine oil and filter, diesel filter and air filter. The following year add in the gearbox, transfer box and diffs etc. If you work off this schedule you will be O.K. Don't forget to grease the nipples on the joints on the prop shafts.
There is a copy of the service sheet here

Wow, no engine oil/filter change on a 2.2 DPF'd Puma for 35.000 KM? Shocked
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.
