Adventure roof rack - webbing and security Qs
Just wondered whether anyone has used webbing (as a base) on their roof racks to help with loading on lots of stuff - a bit like this

http://www.raingler.com/#!product/prd1/445...-style-net

(although I would prefer smaller holes to help load on bikes etc). Any recommendations or advice. I have seen the thread on the poultry racks, but I really wanted something that I quickly put on when needed very occasionally each year, rather than something up there permanently.

Also, getting very paranoid over security after reading advice on this forum.... so can I ask, should I be concerned about anyone taking my roof rack (or is that logistically unlikely since it would need so many people) and if so, what security measures can I use to prevent this (I have seen security bolts for other makes, but not for the standard LR rack). Advice please. thanks.

You could try Brad (I think) at http://rocknroad4x4.com

I got a bonnet net from him and he made a bespoke bag for me which fits perfectly to the net.

Ring him and tell him what you want and he'll make for you. The prices were very reasonable for my net and bespoke bag.

Cheers

Mick

Had the rack on mine around Cardiff for nearly 3 years with no bother at all.

It's just too big and heavy Thumbs Up

Can't help with the cargo netting sorry, I use Rok Straps on the roof (and motorbike).

Like Steve, I've had mine on for ages and a Hannibal rack previously with no issues. Not to say it's not worth considering security though.

As for bikes on the roof rack I use a couple of Thule bike holders, job done.

Soon remember it's a high vehicle when getting them up there though. Strong people are harder to kill and generally more useful!

I think they are just socket button headed set screws - take one one and measure it - you'll then be able to replace with whatever type of security head you like:

Quite like the look of these cargo nets, whether bonnet, roof, or slung from the roof inside. It does make me smile when companies talk of kit being 'Mil Spec'. If people knew how s**t some 'military' spec items were (are?) and that many squaddies prefer 'civvie' spec, comapnies might not so readily tag their kit as such. Sounds cool I s'pose.... I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

They are just standard Torx headed fasteners. A bit of a faff but that's it. Electric impact gun soon has them off. It's possible to get the rack off by yourself, I have done, but it's much easier with two!

I wouldn't worry about it though, it's probably easier to steal the whole Defender than the roof rack.
