Thanks Miker. Yes it does look like something has been leaking below it, and the run down to D44 on Saturday resulted in a 24mpg average, so I suspect/hope its getting worse!

Picked up a new one from D44 while I was down there, so not just need to find a free weekend to tackle the job and see how things improve.

As a comparison, my TD5 with roll cage, winch and lots of other weighty items did 31.5mpg on the 200mile run to D4x4 on Saturday. I was doing between 50-60mph which seems to be a sweet spot for fuel economy.

Don't put off replacing the FPR. It's a really simple job on the Defender - much easier access than doing it on a Disco.

It should be done and back on the road again in 1 hour.

I bought a kit on e bay and changed the pressure regulator and o rings back in early 2015 and it is fine, if you buy the whole item it is quite expensive and seems to be no point changing the Aluminium casing just wash it in solvent.

Hope it does the trick for you, just take care if you change the o ring which sits in the block, when you remove it the little filter usually falls out and can get lost or damaged, the price of a new one is crazy, found out the hard way Big Cry :

I have a 2000 TD5 and have noticed recently that the fuel economy is rubbish. I am getting about 200 miles out of a tank. I cant seem to find a leak anywhere and it is running fine.

Could this be an issue with the fuel regulator or maybe something else?
