Simple wiring question
Maybe I'm being really thick, but having searched numerous threads, I have to ask;
I'm fitting a chubby box (FCX) with 12v charging sockets / USB, have run the wires to under the drivers seat for power.
How do I get behind the fuses to tap into an appropriate live wire, I've undone the 3 bolts holding the fuse board down but can't lift it seemingly due to 100 wires holding it down?
Also any suggestions as to which fuse or wire to use?

Can you not take power from the back of the cigarette lighter with an inline fuse?

Thinking about it, you probably won't need an inline fuse because the cigarette lighter must be fused already.
I'm sure Matt at FCX will be able to help you with this.

Why not take a line straight from the battery to the cubby box via a fuse. Put an isolator switch in if you want to turn it all off but it does mean that you can charge via the USB socket independantly of the ignition on or off.

It is a bit of a pain but when the cover is off you can then see some Phillips headed screws at the ends holdin the metal back plate to the bulkhead, undo these and pull forward, it's pretty self explanatory from there on.

I installed a small fusbox in the battery box, I also have a wiring and relays in there to supply the caravan socket.

I then have one permanent live cigarrette socket and a relay uperated USB socket.

I just fed a wire down from the switch console down, there is actually a 5cm wide channel in the middle of the bulkhead that allows you to feed wire down from the bulkhead, then ran behind the fuse panel and unde rthe carpet into the battery box He who dies with the most toys wins Smile

I'm with the others, I've taken a supply off the battery using a simple two fuse outlet. I'm going to change to one of these which is a little pricey but worth it - I just need to double check the battery terminals for compatibility. I find yacht chandlers good for this type of stuff as they tend to sell waterproof kit.

An auxiliary fusebox mounted in the battery box and few direct from the battery is a good idea and leaves open the option of connecting other permanently live accessories in the future.

For a one off low draw supply - piggy backs are available that plug into and take a feed off an existing fuse slot in vehicle fuseboxes are available. The idea being that you unplug a standard fuse of your choice, plug in the piggy back which has slots for the original fuse plus an independently fused wire tail from which you can take the feed for the low draw accessory. Steve.

All who have replied - thanks for the generous advice, I think I'm going to put in a secondary/aux fuse box in the battery box, so I can cope with other accessories as they inevitably will happen.
