My little LED interior mod

as an former electronics engineer I am obsessed with LEDīs

My whole defender consists of LED lights : the only bulbs that remain are the bulbs in the HVAC control and I am trying to change those too:

So I want to share my most recent project (its been done before): interior door handle LEDīs
And puddle lights.

so the next challenge is the exterior door handle , has this been done before?

I've done a fair bit with them.
Exterior door handles are possible but two issues. A, waterproofing, B, drilling / mounting.

The waterproofing is fairly easy to over come with some ingenuity .
However, I would not be drilling door handles or door skins myself.
Interior door handle recesses are cheaply. (Fairly!) replaceable if anything does go wrong drilling a or if you wanted to ever go back to standard.

Puddle lights again have a bit of a mounting difficulty at the bottom of the doors.

I do enjoy mine though at right, it's dark red doesn't illuminate you to others. (You don't always want to be in car parks etc!)

Red is also the colour of some ladies boudoir's, some have mentioned here in the past. Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Need to do some work on these though as I have some black strips now instead of white and also the tape which has stayed put for over two years have gave way due to being caught on bags in the passenger footwell.

So need to take these out and replace, new ones are brighter and blend in better. Mr. Green

Like the idea of the LED's in the lower doorcard, I avoided this due to the possibility of moisture ingress / damage as my 90 is used for working too.
Anyone that does wading too it would be a no go, although I don't think many of us Puma owners often go very deep.

So I got the LEDS from here :
http://www.benl.ebay.be/itm/291132733600?_...EBIDX%3AIT

3 mm where used.

I connected them to the interior lights , which is oddly enough negatively switched.

I already had for LED light strips in my defender for a few years.
it is all double fused and soldered and then heat shrunk. no crimps!

My goal to every mod is too look as factory as possible.

I am thinking of doing a second LED in the door handle recces that lights up Landrover Green. But at a lower light output. : it Requires a second circuit though.
A few years ago , I nearly built in a Programmable PLC in my car for various cool functions... (remote lights, ventilation etc...)

I like that Alcantara headliner where do I get it ? Discovery 4 SDV6 Landmark

The trick to a better illumination is to use an iron file and grind away the head of the LED flat: this gives a better diffuse light Discovery 4 SDV6 Landmark

Have you seen the little 12-24V Barth units that RS are selling at the moment? I'm very tempted to get one to play with.
I've also built some low powered radio receivers at work, based on something from RF Solutions but only using 4mA at 12V so won't put undue strain on the battery. One day I might get round to some remote control lights, but there are more important things to do first Laughing

Just did the Driver (UK passenger side) :
took 1 hour (hardest part is pulling cable trough grommet.)

After removing the door , test fitting LEDīs

I am tempted to change the puddle LEDīs to 5mm versions for a bit more illumination. Discovery 4 SDV6 Landmark
