2.2 Decat pipe?
Hi, does anyone know of an off the shelf decat pipe for the 2.2. There's plenty for the 2.4, but the 2.2 is proving elusive.

Cheers,

Tim

There is apparently a Land Rover racing pipe, an official Land Rover part, which is not only legal but which is as good as or better than an off the market decat - I cannot find the part number though I seem to recall Pete from BAS identifying it about a year ago.

A few Australian 2.2 owners have ordered the part and installed it with some success. ****CENSORED****

Hi Tim

I know Ian Baughan of IRB was working on cat & DPF removal pipes a while back, worth dropping him a line to see if it's available yet (use Defender2 Forum in the subject line)

So would that be legal as in they still contain the cat and dpf? If you can find the original details/post or any more info, it would be interesting.

Hi guys, thanks for the info and replys, I'll give IRB a call. I should have specified the vehicle is ROW spec and only has the cat, (no DPF).

Cheers,

From memory Pete's post showed a photo of the part together with a part number, I am sorry I can't find it but it might be worth prodding Pete for an answer. ****CENSORED****

Wow! that does go back a while! The post I was referring to from Pete was in a thread to do with decat and dpf removal - about a year ago - a few members were becoming upset and as I recall Pete posted an image and part number of the Land Rover item pointing out that it was perfectly legal to use manufacturer approved parts.

I am sorry I can't add much more to that other than I know a few Aussies have installed either that specific part or similar with some success. ****CENSORED****

Rockjaw - thanks for the additional info - I'll have a trawl through the old posts Thumbs Up

Morepower - excellent sleuthing Thumbs Up but I think that thread only refers to the 2.4 engine for which I think there were at least 8 variants of the cat pipe which seem to be a common fit across the 90, 110 & 130:

Catalyst, EU2 - WCD502340 or WCD501910
Catalyst, Euro Stage 4 Emissions WCD502500 or LR020683 or LR030002 or LR041316
Catalyst, Stage V Plus DPF LR030001 or LR041312

Its a little loud here as its in an enclosed area. Again,, a warranty killer mod so think carefully.

Thiis one is a little better though still not a fantastic video to show exhaust sound.

The DPF on the 2.2 has been a problem for quite a few owners now especially the slow moving town cars that can't meet the speed and heat needed for an efficient regeneration process. And infact on the flip of that some cars that get worked very very hard can also have problems as the DPF overheats and goes into melt down (on rare occasions) Big Cry

We have a few months ago now for a company had to produce a DPF off remap for them as well as limiting them down to as low as 35kmh for their particular legislation. Up to the point of me doing the rework on the engine ecu they were eating DPF nearly on a weekly biases.

http://www.deltrain.com

Now they are gone from the engine ecu and the internals taken out of the exhaust they have had no more problems.

I'm working on a full front pipe for them at the moment so they can just swap them out as they build the trains.

Pete.

Actually, this looks like the thread Rockjaw was referring to http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic26337.html?highlight=dpf

The picture above is just something I found on the net as an example and is not what im going to use as an exact item BUT this is a fully legal race cat. It was posted to explain an idea!.
Im looking to make a full CAT/DPF but in race form to allow the car to breath better, it will be fully legal and have all the needed marks and numbers to pass the MOT.

I will as also said be producing a total removal for non road use only in, EG competition, full race and non EU etc etc.

Pete

What pipe are you referring to? No decat or sports cat shown on their website for the 2.2.
