There's plenty of seals here on Skye, take a boat trip out from dunvegan castle if you want to get really close.
As for midges, June, July, August are the worst, but it really depends on the weather, they can't fly if the wind is blowing or it's too hot (lol). Realistically having lived here 5 years, they are only a real problem a few days of the year. You just have to adapt your lifestyle to avoid them, summer evening BBQs are now lunch BBQs, gardening is done on windy days etc. I try to have indoor and outdoor work lined up and which gets done depends on the weather / midges and Smidge is great for stopping them biting! Hi Lambert, the wild camping spot I was talking about is by Loch Loyal, a few miles south of Tongue.
There's also a rather nice campsite with facil's and a cafe at Scourie, not far away on the west coast. If you prefer somewhere a bit livlier, Ullapool is just down the coast from there with a great campsite, likely to be busy just now though. When up in Ullapool on the motorbikes we stay in the bunkhouse rooms at www.theceilidhplace.com which are fairly cheap, room only, shared facil's, when I'm up there with the wife we stay in their en-suite B&B rooms which are a bit dearer. The food at The Ceildh Place is fantastic. So is the beer, the whisky, the music and the craic. Have a nice holiday. |

So far so good. Up to fort William and getting 32.7 mpg. Had a couple of waves but not seen many others save from the one I'm parked against. Good times. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

We will be moving to the Highlands for good at some stage, perhaps as soon as next year Keith. The missus and I love the place and it all started by our fascination with the TV series, Monarch Of The Glen. - Andrew -

I'm hoping to be back up north for my holidays this year after a couple of years down south so I will be glad of further updates and new ideas of things to do and see. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

If we get the time off then I'm hoping to embark on the following trip:
Dumfries - Oban - Fort William - Skye - Ardverikie/Laggan - Kingussie - Inverness - Shetland We would need to allocate two weeks to get the most out of the Shetland phase. - Andrew - |
