Abrasion from Door Seals

Sorry if this has been covered before - I did a search but couldn't see anything.

I noticed that I was getting rust spots at the bottom left hand corner of the drivers door frame - the bit where the door seal is trimmed to fit against the bottom of the door frame. I peeled the bottom of the door seal away and found that there were loads of sharp strands of steel exposed - part of the reinforcing that helps the seal grip the metal seam around the door.

These metal strands were slightly rubbing on the paint work every time the door was opened or closed.

I've since been around all my doors to check them and found a similar problem so I have further trimmed back or cut off these already trimmed back areas and so removed the exposed metal strands. The Defender is not as "airtight" as it was Wink but it should stop (delay!) some of the rust.

Might be worth checking your own. Just look around the area with the red circle on the (now!) attached image - it will be very clear if you are likely to have a problem! 300 TDi 110 CSW

I had this problem on mine and got it fixed under warranty.

I then used 3m protective heli tape to protect

That's a great idea ScotM.

I got mine fixed too. Dealer was not particularly surprised which makes me think this is a fairly common problem 300 TDi 110 CSW

Tis' indeed common.
In places the seals are that bit too tight a fit so causes this. And it does definitely cause corrosion if not kept on top of.
