No I don't see any difference in visibility as the bars sit in line with the windscreen pillars so you don't actually see the cage from inside really.

This is my Defender
The Bars are actually a full roll cage with an internal hoop - from Safety Devises - as fitted to the 50th special
The internal hoop is not braced so does not impede internal space or access to the back - but still gives protection in an accident

Also no limit to visibility

I feel that apart from the cosmetic benefits it also adds some rigidity to the body. Well it feels as if it does.

Before I read your comment, I was actually thinking the opposite - in the sense that it would transfer bending/twisting forces across two surfaces subject to different twisting forces. Are there load spreading plates on the internal surfaces?

SD do a version with braces that don't appear to impede rear space at all:

Whilst it may give a degree of protection in certain roll over situations, I think without the rear bracing then it's too compromised to really be called a roll cage.

I would agree that I have purchased a compromise roll cage
It will not give as much protection as a full external cage - which I could not fit due to the extra fuel tank position
The internal hoop without bracing (it still has a hoop under the floor and the one seen that replaces the bulkhead) allows the seat to go further back - which was important to me

It will as you say give a degree of protection - it will not protect the vehicle from being damaged - but hopefully it will give sufficient protection for the passengers to survive a roll

This 50th rolled (both front wings were squashed) but the cab remained intact - costs about £500 more than a style bar

I have an SD one I removed to fit a full roll cage.

No internal hoop, needs a bit of cosmetic touch up, you can have for £190.

Only thing is it's in France.

I'm away at the moment but will try and get some photos of it if you're interested.

Thanks for the replies and pictures etc, deep down - thanks for the offer but I'll probably give SD a call in the morning and get some advice and specs for a new one, chances are I'll go for a L230 style bar in black if they do one, or a L138/7 like boode's above, but thanks all the same.
boode - I contacted D44 about a bumper like yours in the pic above but never got an answer or a call back, ended up doing my own in the end.
