Warranty expired, going strong!
My warranty ran out in November and i decided not to fork out £700 on the extended warranty but put the money in a sweetie-jar... not ONE fault since and it is nice to know i have had the gremlins we all suffer from fixed. A sorted Defender is a delight to own and to change it now for a new one would be like standing at the foothills of Everest looking at the challenge ahead.
During the past three weeks on snow and minus temperatures i now see the public soften to a REAL Icon and it has been invaluable for helping others. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Recently ran out on my 335d and decided not to shell out for insurance (which is what is is - NOT a proper warranty).

Did the sums, it all works out. If you can't afford to repair a car that's out of warranty, you shouldn't own it. Insured warranties are works of the devil.

Our 110 still has 11 months Used Approved warranty. Probably won't extend it.

Good to hear a tale of reliability though! I suspect a lot is to do with simply looking after it properly. Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.

It's always good to read something like that.

Would it be fair to say most of the niggles with the Puma have been ironed out now? I've still got a bit of transmission backlash and spazzy wipers but I'm sure they'll be sorted under warranty soon enough and hopefully that'll be it.

The AA do a very simple warranty.

I cover all 3 vehicles for about £12/month. You can claim up to 7 x £500 across the 3 cars for breakdowns or near breakdowns, covers most things including clutches.

I stopped the warranty on the D3 in September so hoping this will cover any hick-ups.

If I can claim once in a year it's paid for itself.

(I almost took it out last year, but didn't, if I had I would have saved £1000 on the alfa which needed a new clutch and suffered a broken cambelt) Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Defender 90 TD5 Station Wagon

Wish I had bought it;
Bearing failure £350
Wiper motor replacement £100
Central locking has packed up £?
Clutch is on the way out £700 quote to replace

BUT its now worth 5k more than I paid for it (even via a part ex with a stealer) and I still love it Laughing Pimped black '07 Puma

Would all that list be covered with the extended warranty? 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Hi Red Dot,

Warranty on mine expired September 2010 (18k miles on clock). Engine Management Light came on this morning. Dealer said possibly £300 for exhaust sensor. OUCH!

Willie

PS the AA warranty sounds OK, will look into that. Defender Virgin
