Van/4x4 Hire including towbar in France
Hi All

As part of my job I travel and sometimes, just sometimes I need to move some machinery on a trailer in France.... does anybody know where I can hire a Van or 4x4 with a towbar (needs to tow tri-axle 6 metre trailer, 2200kgs); anywhere West of a line from Calais to Orleans.

I've tried Kilotou and various other independents but no luck so I don't hold out much hope but if anybody knows of somewhere I would be really grateful

Many thanks

Some of the supermarkets do van-hire.

I know Super-U definitely do.

No idea about tow bars though - might be worth a look ---------------------------------------------------------------

Would it be easier to hire and drive over (if allowed) SHB maybe? 1999 Defender TD5 110

Hope I'm not being insulting, don't know your level of French, but Google the following:

Remorque - trailer
Tout terrain - All terrain
Camion Benne - tipper truck

And then add the region or department number.

The vehicle types should at least get you to the specialist and the regional suffix the correct area. But just remember that indies can be really bad with website usage in France (if they have one at all), so calling will offer better results than sending an email (normally). Bon courage Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

Addendum. They won't be nearly as cheap as the UK, so it may be worth working out the cost of bringing the trailer over from the UK (ferry, tolls etc) to compare. Via Michelin does a great cost analysis of journeys, just make sure you adjust the 'options' list accordingly. Otherwise your costs will be calculated against a 1.6 hatch back!! Whistle

Thanks all for your help.... have tried Super U but towbars are the issue.

Trailer is already in France and stays there with the machine at various dealers.... its complicated because I travel to France a lot and quite often leave my car at an airport then head back to the UK for a week or two so I'm trying to avoid driving a lot of miles in a few days with a UK hire..... must be getting old!!

Thanks Monsieur Grenadier.... I hadn't searched by department but by city so thats a good idea, cheers!

Not insulted at all... my French gets me by, have called in personally at some independents without much luck but will continue looking...... of course the solution is probably another Landy but seems a little extreme and I probably have enough toys!!

Thanks again guys
