Today I finally sold the last remaining take off bits, the headlining sold on eBay very nicely 😀
I have a list of things to do in 2016 looking forward now, in no particular order: Spare wheel carrier Dirt DFenders Mud sun visor mirrors if they do them in black Alive suspension tune to make it more comfortable. BAS remap Looks like I'll be busy.  2016 D4 HSE

Too late, after another really muddy splashy day out shooting in the Defender, I bought a pair of front Dirt D Fenders tonight from MUD as it looks muddier than a farm vehicle!
I think the rear wheel carrier should be soon too, to prevent any rear door damage. The suspension changes will be next, and the remap at a later date. If I want to go fast, I'll jump in the Range Rover and unleash the 5.0 Supercharged  2016 D4 HSE

I must admit I only got my BAS remap for drivability and not speed, it much easier to jump in the Range and get to places fast, what I have found is I'm driving the Defender more than the Range for any jurney up to an hour and I never seem to use first gear anymore 👍

Today I fitted the MUD Dirt D Fenders.
It's a really easy job, anyone can do this with a drill and a rivet gun. In my opinion the rivets supplied are a bit weedy, I used some extra long ones with a wider head, and where they attach to the plastic wheel arch spat I used washers to spread the load. To those who say it's impossible to fit these with chequer plate sills fitted to your Defender - what a load of twoddle! The slight flex in the plastic allows you to shape to fit, and my advice would be to start at the front hole and work back. MUD also supply a strip of self adhesive foam for filling any gaps due to the LR tolerance (i.e. massive gaps!) I'm pleased with mine and went for the more rugged looking textured plastic in black as my sills are black and I can't be arsed to paint them and worry about the paint coming off. I have these on my White defender! got really fed up with mud on the roof and up the doors seconds after ive just washed it
And I can say they work perfectly |

I didn't so much mind the look of a muddy Defender, but its annoying when even the door handles are caked in it, so you can't open the door without getting muddy hands. Plus, when driving along farm track you have to keep the windows closed, otherwise it can spray up into the car hitting you or the interior!! 2016 D4 HSE

I fitted Dirt Defenders to my 110 DC whilst I had 285/75 BFG KM2s on (with 30mm spacers) because although I don't mind the outside getting muddy, I don't like mud in the eye or having to keep the windows shut!
I found that they were an extremely effective, easy to fit, and cost effective solution and they really do work very well. My Defender has evolved a bit more since then and now has 255/85 KM2s on Blindos, and also rock sliders. The latter are incompatible with the DDs so they have to come off, I have instead fitted the Glyn Lewis front mudflap kit, which is just as effective but more expensive and more involved to fit. Every MUD product I have seen sofar has impressed me greatly - the DDs, the interior shelf thingy, the new LED interior light, etc. They're all well made, well designed, and good value. |

Had a quick tinker over lunchtime and fitted one of my Christmas presents, a new radio unit.
The car had a JVC one in but I wanted something more up to date. It is an Alpine UTE-72BT, one of the newer mechless units so no CD player (they skip too much in a bouncing Defender anyway) but has mod-cons such as a front USB socket and you can stream your music from your phone via Bluetooth (hence the BT part of the name) It's excellent, for £70 this is excellent. OK, I don't have a subwoofer and the stock speakers are not great for bassy tunes, but its crisp and clear and loud enough, has easy buttons to operate which are useful when bouncing about, and it's linked up to my Parrot device, it mutes when calls come in, and I can use voice control on the unit itself, read my phone book, dial out etc. No more 3.5MM AUX in cables all over the place! YAY! Easy enough to fit although with the Parrot kit I was struggling for space behind the unit, plus the facia colour is red rather than the neon blue of the JVC which at nighttime, lit up the entire car in my face, a bit distracting.
