The inside of the pick-up load bay was full of holes too, and I was keen to go bulkhead free for leg room as my plan was to soft-top it, so a trip down the scrappie got me a new rear tub from a write-off, some scrapes but pretty straight

The chassis was good, some surface discolouration but no rust as expected from the age, but all the spaces were full of mud, grass seed and it took quite a bit of jet washing to clear it off, then a day of hosing the drive of all the gunk!!

As it was going to be a little while til I could get the back done, i decided to do the front end, and put the new intercooler tubing and coolant tubing on, and take off the battered outer wing skins to be replaced by aftermarket thicker pattern ones…

As you can see there are some superb tree sliders on, have some in my old V8 90 and they're awesome thanks to Ian Dixon for them! 👍
Splashed out a bit, but you have to when it comes to safety, and got a Protection & Performance cage - wouldn't be allowed to take the little one out and about without it😉 Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge So after the cage went on, I got a good deal on a tubular winch bumper, and in anticipation of maybe wanting a tune at some point 😗🎼 I put a Serck intercooler in. Took my hood off the old 90, had "ears" put in and she was watertight (😂 Haha, as if a defender could be from above!!) Bonnet from a scrappie and some "chequer" (not actually chequered!) plates from Equipe went on. I then went on a mission to rid the Defender of all filament bulbs, including JWSpeaker evo2 heads and led indicators (since replaced with JWS DRL ones…) After that progress slowed, although now taxed and mot'd at least it was usable, so Mrs G was happier… With the outside usable, the dash had been replaced with an XS one, with extra switches for the lockers and compressor, I started inside. Silent cost to the front half, carpet throughout and the cobra Sidewinder seats out of old 90 - even had a bit of a re-trim - and a din-security cubby from fcx 👍🏻 Click image to enlarge May as well do a 2" Bearmach (non HD) / Wildbear lift as well…

Bit of a steering wobble, the swivels had seen better days, pins loose and wobbly…
Click image to enlarge That would do it! While down there, did both sides' bearings, updated the discs to EBC vented, and out AP calipers on. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge CV's on one side starting to show a bit of play, so "while I was down there"  I did that with a lot of help from Al & Chris  , and took the opportunity to put in the ARB locker that had been bought off a charming chap mountainman on here

Haha!!  I have already got a V8 90, there are advantages for me of having a Td5… especially after a little trip up the M5 to IRB… |

Got the front shocks / springs and turrets done… braided extended hoses, as "why not?"!!!

Top tip, the Gwyn Lewis protectors at the back of the front wheel arches are worth their weight in gold!!! All pristine behind there when it was up on ramp…! Despite getting stuck in deep mud, which got everywhere else!! |
