Daft Light Question

OK

First things first, I am no auto electrician !

I fitted the Boomslang Performance Headlight Loom , it was easy to do, followed instructions and also decided to take power from alternator.

All has worked fine for seven months or more.

Then !

Started to get a buzz from what I thought was the switch ! Sounded like a wasp stuck in the headlight switch !

Engine off but ignition on and the following happens;

Push light switch forward one click, should be side lights ? but I get side lights and dipped. Push forward final click and lights go off and buzz starts !

Questions.

I though I wouldnt get dipped if the engine was off ? Power should be coming from alternator ?

I dont think its the switch as I replaced that tonight and still have the same problem !

Is there a relay in the lighting loom behind the steering wheel area which could be buzzing ?

Any ideas would be gratefully received !

Last thing I want is the lights to pack up one night in this

cold wet weather !

I've fitted a similar loom, the lights change configuration after fitting, the headlights will be on at the first position, so there won't be a sidelight option.
I think it might be your dim-dip relay that could be suspect, an easy way to find out is unplug it. It's behind the clocks, easy to do. There's a few threads on here about it.
If you want to get the sidelight option back that's easy too.....

Yep sounds like the dim-dip relay to me. Get rid of it and bypass is the proper solution, there was never any need for it to be fitted in the first place.

Thanks for tips. Will have a go over the weekend.

Final question, should the dip beam come on if engine not on it lights wired to alternator ????

Not unless the ignition is on, if not on then it should just be sidelights.

Rather than spending £25 on a by-pass relay for the dim dip

Can someone tell me which pins I should put the wire on to by-pass and I can make up a wire and spade terminals much cheaper !

Totally confused !

Took the tow bar electric plug apart and it was fine. No rust contacts all good. Still have the green light on the dash !

Rear lights work ok. Brake lights are really dim ??

The dim dip is knackered however when I do the wire bypass I have no lights, and I did the right bypass by the way.

Can the brake light switch at the pendal not be working right and therefore not getting the voltage to the rear brake lights ?

Aaaaaaaahhhhhh help

Anyone know a good autoeletricain in Dunfermline ?

Everything was working fine until my dim dip relay went ! Will guy another one in the mean time !
