Business takes me to South Wales (Newport) next week and of all the places on the planet ... never been there.
So, if I take a day or two off with trusty truck, what's a nice run and place to stay (hotels)? It'll still be wet I imagine .. lanes? if you have thoughts on the best of S Wales - thanks. Sold the much modified 110 2.8, in Oz Brought the 90 home from Switzerland ... |

Dropped pin
near Eglwyscummin, Carmarthenshire https://goo.gl/maps/[url]GijZNdMHz4C2 We always stay near Marros. Tenby and saundersfoot are nice plus all the other little villages on the coast. From Marros there is a footpath which runs directly south to some secluded beaches. I think you can drive on pendine sands also, but you might want to check that. 2002 110 td5 |

We stay here. There are only 3 camping pitches, each with a military style tent shelter and a fire area with unlimited supply of free firewood. Each pitch is seperate from eachother in their own field. The footpath to the coast runs through the adjoining wood. 2002 110 td5 |

Hello ppad
I would say you have two options when you're finished in Newport... either head north to the Brecon Beacons (National Park) some good walking but it's not North Wales which is more dramatic and better IMO... (you will not bring too much wet weather gear). or you can head further down the M4 / 1Hr / 50+ Miles to the Gower Peninsular if you like beaches Rhossili (far left / west) is one of the best in Wales or if you believe in TripAdviser, its moved from 10th to 9th place in the world... It will be wet and windy and you will have almost the whole place to yourself this time of year (best of all you wont be in Newport). Depends what you like doing I suppose. Lots of walking along coastal paths if that is your bag, or the beacons if you like bleak landscapes and extreme weather anytime of the year, my personal favourites are the castles and you have Chepstow, Caerphilly within easy travelling from Newport or if going a bit further west check out Carreg Cennen Castle which is stunning. Also St Fagans museum is always a good few hours where dozens of properties have been relocated and rebuilt as they were originally, fascinating walk through history.
If you like Italian and venture to the Gower as someone else mentioned, the Castellmare at Bracelet Bay is a must and overlooks the Bay so at this time of year the Views are fabulous. Or you may just want to drive |

As above /\
You won't beat the Castles. Caerphilly, Castle Coch, Chepstow all in 30 mins of newport. If you like a nice country hotel then i would recommend Bryn Meadows golf and spa, The new house country hotel. You won't beat going down west though. Tenby is spot on and also the gower. |

I'll give you an idea,......and I'm in Australia!!
My Mum's 50% Welsh & she had relos & friends in Swansea, Morriston & other areas. A place we stayed at a couple of times, in the fifties!!...was "Llandanwg". I've always been into aircraft & I remember when We stayed there, there was always aircraft taking off & landing across the Bay,..... Never knew why until a few years ago when I googled same (don't we all) and discovered that at the time it was a RAF base!! So there you go,..."LLANDANWG"!!! Pickles. |

Hi Pickles .. I was in Melbourne for best part of 20 years and my house is still there - and now I'm going to South Wales Such is life. Llandanwg looks a bit too far north this time, nice beach tho.
Give my regards to Anthony and Bev Johnson (British 4WD) in Montrose if you bump into them. Sold the much modified 110 2.8, in Oz Brought the 90 home from Switzerland ... |
