Hello
Tell them everything, My fear would be if you have an accident and god for bid taken away in an ambulance say... then your car is checked. ooh different wheels, spacers, remap, etc etc... VOID INSURANCE i would think... simply not worth saving a few quid. Plus many specialist insurance companies are actually cheaper with mods declared than the normal compare the what not sites... Adrian Flux were great when I have had modified cars. |

Does ANY change need to be notified? For example, I have a roof rack and aftermarket Exmoor trim seats. Neither are a performance mod, both are made to suit the vehicle, so THEY are not modified although the vehicle consequently is. What level of stuff is the insurance company interested in - down to a rear work lamp or snow cowal, or stuff that can 'alter' the motor such as mentioned in a previous post eg wheel spacers, remap etc? I suppose the best answer would come from my insurers, but just interested to gauge the different opinions on here.

The roof rack, seat covers, snow cowl etc could make low life's choose yours to take rather than one without... I would suggest it would so would declare them. |

Some insurance companies will look for any excuse not to pay out. My approach is to declare everything. I'd rather not give them an excuse!

I declared ecu retune, wheels, tyres, intercooler, every upgrade I've done, plus made sure I upped the worth of the vehicle, it only made an extra £30 per year, no point in not declaring things as you may as well not be covered.

Wasn't there a story last year where an insurance company claimed that a woman's stickers in the window where an undeclared modification and tried to refuse a claim?
I think the argument was the sticker may have been seen as potentially offensive and the claim was for vandalism (I think) so the argument was that the stickers made her vehicle more likely to be damaged and so was a higher risk. There is some logic in it. It's not always about higher performance but also if you are a higher risk for theft, vandalism or if the mods put your repair costs up or cause more damage to another vehicle/person in the event of a collision. edit...quick google... http://www.mirror.co.uk/money/how-stickers...ld-5244082 |

If you don't declare everything then you allow the insurer to refuse any claim you make as you have not provided full disclosure of the risk to be insured.
Short term you get a lower premium, not always the case though. The insurer is happy for the business and to take your money, even happier when you make a claim and he discovers undisclosed items as then he doesn't have to pay out and still gets to keep your premium. If you want your insurance to cover you when the ![]() In short, if you want your insurance to be valid declare everything. They may not agree to insure you, fine, move on to the next, no harm no foul! Any farther South and I'll need to trade the Defender in for a Landing Craft ![]() |

So what constitutes a MOD and what constitutes an Acessory?
My insurers , when I told them of the roof rack , RAI, etc told me that as they were an OEM accessory fitted by Landrover dealer they aren't a modification ! |
