Clutch Issues 300 Tdi
Seeking ideas on a 300 Tdi 110 clutch issue I have.
I can't get it into gear with the engine running. I have replaced the clutch plate ( Valero), pressure plate, release bearing - twice, it has a new strengthened clutch fork and new fork pivot. It has had three slave cylinders and 3 master cylinders - the last one being 7/8 ths bore to get more movement on the slave cylinder. The slave cylinder push rod is good. It was put together with the push rod clip in place. The clip holding the release bearing to the fork wasn't replaced but I can't see this causing my problems. About to take it apart for the third time but am at a lost to what the problem might be unless it is the spigot bearing or I haven't aligned the plate properly. Any thoughts appreciated. No matter what I have done the problem has stayed the same.
Cheers,
Graham

bent/damaged fulcrum for the arm?

something inside behind the arm limiting its movement at slave end? Cheers

Thanks for the replies.
Clutch plate will only go in one way. Impossible to get around the wrong way.

I have changed the arm for a strengthened one, so there is a possibility it may not be quite as per original but I should see marks on the bell housing if that is the case.

It is going to be something obscure but silly I think.

Cheers,
Graham

It may help to add some pictures of what the engine side and gearbox side look like before you put then together. Does the gearbox go into gear when not connected to the engine and why did you replace the clutch in the first place. Also what part numbers are you using? Is the push rod the correct 300tdi one?

Cheers

Could it be something to do with the gear selector bias springs requiring adjustment. Is is all gears or just a few?

I had this problem and my first instinct was to start swearing at the clutch until I found that some gears worked OK - then I started swearing at the gearbox - then I found out about the bias springs below the gear stick! Whistle
After adjustments made, all was good again. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is the master cylinder pushrod position adjusted so that you achieve full movement? IIRC there are locknuts that set the position of the pushrod Vs the pedal, and if this isn't correct then you may not achieve enough stroke to displace enough fluid to the slave?

Not true..... when I was rebuilding mine a friend put the clutch plate in, and then when tested I'm sure it wouldn't transmit drive. We had the gearbox in and out several times before I spotted that he had put it in the wrong way round!

Just found an old post, it wouldn't release, just rattled 2015 RRS Autobiography SDV6

What's the spigot bearing like in end of crankshaft?

If gearbox main shaft is tight in spigot bearing it could be picking up drive ?

There were two types of slave cylinder and push rod for the R380. The push rods are different lengths so have to be matched to the correct slave cylinder. Check you have the correct part number or that it matches the one taken off.

^^^ ref lengths, had this issue yesterday!

likewise spigot bearings is very valid point, one that came out yesterday was failing in a big way. Cheers
