To my mind the Heritage was the only one that is somehow true to the original vehicle, and it is the story of how the vehicle has evolved and people's memories of the Land Rover brand that hooks a lot of owners in. If another manufacturer (think Great Wall for example) came up with a Defender today I'm fairly sure most people would laugh at it - they certainly wouldn't pay way more than an equivalent spec'd Japanese generic truck. The Defender is pretty rubbish if we are honest (and it is our rose-tinted glasses that keep us in love with them to a certain extent!). (I sound as though I don't like Land Rovers and I can assure you that I do by the way - I've had them for the last 20 odd years and still own a few).
The Adventure and Autobiography editions are both very very nice Land Rovers, but in reality are more along the lines of what many owners do to their vehicles to personalise them anyway. That personalisation has possibly been diluted by these production runs, losing the very individuality that owners seek to achieve themselves (they are production models after all). It should be remembered that they are also nothing more than super expensive utility vehicles to begin with - however nice an interior you bolt into a Defender (and there are a few aftermarket companies out there offering the equivalent and a whole lot more for less money than LR are retailing these for) it is still a 1940s design with a Transit engine thrown into the front. I believe the Adventure and (to a greater extent) the Autobiography have been sold at or above their real market value in the first place - the demand for such high priced Land Rovers is satisfied extremely well by a number of very good aftermarket companies who offer a more bespoke solution in a better overall package. The Heritage is a different story - this is as basic as it comes, in reality very realistically priced (if there is/was such a thing in the Defender range!...) You wouldn't get anything as 'special' from an aftermarket supplier for anywhere near the original Heritage retail price, and I would imagine that the majority of owners will keep their own bolt on modifications to a minimum to preserve the originality of what was the most basic of run-out offerings. |

Yes, exactly, bare metal in the entire rear section, no rear headlining etc. Surely no one can live with this poverty spec day in day out? Plus the added Noise levels. I'd have brought one if they had built a 110 usw. I would have used it as well like the tomb raider I used to have. Only sold it because I wanted air con and electric Windows, what an idiot. I've used the air con about three times this year.
They are all pretty spartan. Easy to clean. It's a nightmare getting woodchip out of carpet. |

I use air con all year, to dry the air, no matter what temperature, it keeps the windows from misting up, plus, if you don't use it, you lose it! Seals dry up and then the system leaks and fails. I used to tell the Ex wife this, she wouldn't believe me till it got to summer and her brand new BMW air con was foooked.
