Twin Battery camp site charging?
Hello Folks. I'm probably away to ask a daft question.

I'm away to fit a twin battery setup I bought from Mobile centre to run a fridge and some lights when camping. When we go to a camp sit with a power hook up, Should I, or can I hook up the fridge and lights to the mains power? Or does the second battery always power the equipment and is it just a case of using an Anderson connector to hook up to a mains plug? I'm guessing there would be some sort of gadget to change the mains power down to 12v for the battery??? Standard battery charger?? As you can see I'm clueless!

Or do some fridges have second power inputs for mains?

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Richard

Hi Richard. Depends on the fridge. I run a National Luna fridge which has two power inputs, one 12V off the vehicle and an AC plug too.

Top tip, before you hit the road for the weekend, plug into the mains to bring the fridge down to temperature without hammering the auxiliary battery.

Good luck!

A good fridge will have both 12V and mains. If the mains is not connected it will switch automaticcaly over to 12V. Connect the fridge to mains and your leisure battery, and install a good battery charger. Cheers, Vincent

Hi Richard,
Without being cheeky, but I refer to your term 'clueless' when you mention vehicle electrics. After reading your original post, I strongly suggest you get someone competent to hook up your electrical system for you, you don't usually get too many second chances when dealing with 240 volts. Once it's done, get them to run through with you what exactly you need to or don't need to do with the external mains supply at a site. Sounds like you're gearing up for fun, but stay safe.

Cheers, Roddy.

Hi,
you need something like this http://www.towsure.com/camping-site-mains-supply-unit-3-outlet the round plug on the end of the orange cable goes to the site power outlet, you plug your fridge light (240 v only) etc. into the sockets (light blue almost square) on the block. It is fitted with a fused trip. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.

Richard
