Advice please for potential Puma owner.
Merry Christmas all,
I'm new to this forum so be please be gentle.
I am considering buying a 2007 Puma 90 HT County spec with 102k on the clock with full service history, most recent was a major service.
Bodywork is very clean but with some bubbling of paintwork around bottom corner of windscreen frame which extends slightly onto top corner of bulkhead just in front of wing mirror.
Chassis looks solid with only surface rust on rear crossmember.
£11500 is the asking price.
I will be a first time defender owner.
Thoughts very welcome.

They're badly made, unreliable pieces of *"!? 'designed' on a fag packet whilst an Allegro was cutting edge technology.

Every journey is an adventure though, they look fine in a field or posh hotel car park, go places you probably wouldn't be able to walk and I wouldn't like to be without it.

Most things are repairable with basic kit, the windscreen frame is an alloy casting and is prone to corrosion, likewise the bulkhead, but catch them both in time & no worries.

If you can do Meccano, you can do Defender! Razz

Make sure you find out when the clutch was last changed at that mileage. Otherwise if imminent it could set you back 1k.

Most people are legit but some will flog off before impeding doom. Rolling Eyes

None the less, definitely get one and you need a 90. 110's need an aircraft runway to turn around.

...and I found it very useful 5 years ago before I bought my 110 to read through every single page of the Puma section on Def 2 at my leisure. Takes a while but, for some reason, this site attracts intelligent, friendly, polite people who are always willing to help each other by sharing tips and knowledge. Thankfully mine has been reasonably problem free but only, I suspect, by following the maintenance advice of this great bunch of guys and gals. There's not much on telly over Christmas so start reading ! Thumbs Up

Go for it, best thing you can do just make sure you fall in love first because then you can excuse everything like fuel economy, comfort, leaks, noise etc etc etc

Take a 110 for 13 k. That leaves enough space to realize almost any wild dream ...

BTW: First two Puma years are the badest Ford years.

It is almost impossible to believe that an '07 Puma is still on its factory clutch, since most will have one or two replaced under warranty in the first three years. Very few of the early clutches were any good, and if it is the original I'll bet it rattles like a bag of nails!

If you're buying from a trader and the clutch rattles, get them to change it before the sale. If they won't, then walk away.

^^^^ Very true, mine must have been a good one as I am on second clutch now but the first clutch went at 34k.
Other than that though mines and early Puma and so a a fair few members here and little problems.
I woundn't agree early Puma's are any more problematic than latter years, latter Puma's have their own issues too...

Vaue is about average but value, depends on condition and mileage.
High mileage usually brings it down a bit but even still they do keep value well!

101k on what I believe is the original clutch on my 2007 110 , bought with 500 miles showing. Keep it simple - poverty spec.

Amazing! My '07 is on clutch number four at 185k miles. None has worn out, always it is spring failure in the drven plate. Recent plates are better, much better, than the early ones though.

No 2 fitted c.10k miles under warranty
No 3 fitted c 58k miles
No 4 fitted c 150k miles

Always rattly springs and poor drivability.
