HERITAGE ECU???
Well, some good news!

I have noticed, BIG time that my Heritage ECU now has no 'rev hang' between gear changes. MUCH smoother in the power delivery than my 5 month old 90 in OZ.

Can other Heritage owners please 'comment' on what theirs is like... I am wondering if there has been a ECU 're-write' or has the Heritage been given the higher output power without 'telling' anyone?

Also, I note the gearbox seems such smoother... especially there is ZERO catching or 'nicking' between the 1st and 2nd gear change. My 5 month old 90 always 'protests' with a slight synchro catch between 1st and 2nd... especially when it is cold.

Again, can any other Heritage owners offer their observations?

This is all very interesting as I have... been in the very fortunate position to almost do 'back to back' comparisons between 2 MY16 Defender 90's... and these differences are quite obvious! Shocked

Cheers,

Pete Very Happy YOLO... You Only Live Once...

Australia 2015 Defender 90 Puma 2.2 Heritage Edition SW Grasmere Green
Hi Pete,

I can confirm that mine came with the Owners Handbook Supplement LSA 10 02 51 151 which amends power output kW (PS) from 90 (120) to 110 (150) at 3250 RPM. I had assumed this was an error, although the dealer when queried reckons it might be true. I've nothing similar to compare it too, as the old 107 is a lot slower as is the TD5. Mind you the Peugeot 4007 with the 2.2 Ford/Pug TDI is much quicker off the mark, & is the same engine as in the early Discovery sports.

The gearbox is a very slick unit, and I've noticed no protests with synchromesh in any gear, mind you I still double de clutch, can't get out of the habit. So those are the only observations I have made & it does drive nicely, although the wife complains sometimes about the jerky ride, must be the car! Cool

Cheers Nigel

If it is the more powerful ECU, I'm hoping it applies to new XS's too. Mine isn't being built until end of Jan.

Hi Nigel,

Yes, my 90 in Oz also came with that handbook supplement you speak of, but I have confirmed it does not apply to my engine.

Interesting to hear you say your gearbox is very slick... that's what I observed in the Heritage. But my MY16 Oz 90 has a sluggish feel to the gearbox and does definitely catch the synchro between 1st and 2nd... as did my MY14 110. I am now wondering if it is purely 'build tolerance' as Pickles suggested... you get a good one, a bad one or a so so one!

Happy Christmas! Very Happy YOLO... You Only Live Once...

Yes... but it was put in the handbook pack 'in error'!

Just a tease really!

Only the Adventure and Autobiography 90's got the ECU write with more power/torque! Rolling Eyes YOLO... You Only Live Once...

2013 Defender 90 Puma 2.2 SW Santorini Black
What's really strange is my first impressions post was it feels quicker than my my13 90xs. This I found off really odd as it's brand new and my 90xs is well run in with 19k on. But I remember when new my 90xs felt really tight to start with and did loosen up. You never know 2015 90SW Heritage MY16, 2016 90SW XS MY16 (123rd b4 the last build) & RRS HSE MY15

My my14 runs a world better than my my12. That engine management on the early 2.2 was dire.

Sounds like good news! If you're not careful they'll recall your Heritages and upgrade them back to 122 ps and hanging throttle.....😳😩

Well, if there has been a ECU software 'update', I am sure it would be available at dealers? Whistle YOLO... You Only Live Once...
