The bus of South Australian adventurer Alby Mangels is for sale.

"THE last safari bus of global adventurer Alby Mangels is ready for another expedition. Naracoorte man Robin Hood has owned the 1967 Land Rover for more than 20 years but the van is ready for another roadtrip. Mr Hood, who deals in cars, spare parts and scrap metal, did a trade for the safari bus — for a Toyota dyna truck, four Holden utes, a Bedford truck, a Ford f100 and a Chrysler valiant sedan." “From the information I’ve been able to gather, Alby drove the bus to Mount Gambier and traded it in to Bob Brown Autos for a Mercedes camper,” Mr Hood said. “When I was at Bob Brown’s for something else, the guy said to me he had the ‘perfect swap’ for me and it was Alby’s safari bus. “So I did the trade and bought Alby home … we’ve been on a few roadtrips since then.” Mangels, now 67, was an adventurer and documentary filmmaker, widely remembered for his World Safari travel films. He set off in 1971 with friend John Fields on what was meant to be a one-off trip that turned into a six-year odyssey through several continents. The bus, believed to be an old South African ambulance, has a Ford motor, runs on LPG, and has a hot water service and a fridge to keep the beer cold. Mr Hood has taken the safari bus on fishing and camping trips to Mannum and Victoria, but it has not been registered since 2003. He is selling the bus for about $80,000. “On one occasion when we took it out, we had tourists come up and recognise the bus and ask us if we were on a safari,” he said. “I know there are people who collect Alby Mangels paraphernalia, and it’s still in good condition and a great vehicle. “Someone out there would love to have it, I’m sure.” Mr Hood is hoping Mangels contacts him to discuss the sale. |

Awesome, That's the one,...she was pretty bloody good.
But I seem to remember that she was involved in a very serious accident with Alby, and that she wasn't too well afterwards,...but your image is how I like to remember her. Pickles. |
