how'd you mean? You can get them with built in recovery eyes anyway?

but to be honest, a bar type guard is better than a scoop type one. if you ever need to get recovered backwards in deep mud or very soft sand the guard acts as a drag and also forces up the crap into the engine bay

Hi Mick,
To steering guard or not???

Many different opinions. If going to do winch competitions then probably not the best idea. For 'normal' off road work then personally I do not have a problem with them.

Some pointers to consider.

Avoid ebay elcheapos like the plague. Have photos of errr how long they last! Or not as the case maybe.

Ensure steering guard brackets are a decent thickness and are not cut too close to bolt holes. The blade should be reinforced behind the bend.

Certain models come with recovering eyes. Can be awkward to find if front end is in the gloop stuff

Other front steering guards have a 2" receiver built in. Can attach a drop plate and tow ball or a recovery billet.

Steering guards are not a lightweight option

Dan or sumo bars? Ensure that they have grease nipples on

Have a look at Glyn Lewis HERE for Sumo bars and track rod guards.

Recovery points can be built into some bumpers. Much easier to find. Alternative are the equip bolt on swivel recovery eye

On red 110 have sumo bars and front steering guard plus winch bumper with recovery eyes

Disco, steering guard plus winch bumper with recovery eyes

Black 110 Puma ARB winch bumper with built in recovery eyes.

Since your location is Yorkshire if you want to see what we have on our vehicles give me a shout.

Brendan

Was thinking about one of these http://simmonites.com/Steering%20Guards.htm its not for off road use its for instances that we have had with snow have towed a few motors this last week and have had to use the small eyes on the chassis .

Simmonites are only a couple of miles away from where we live.

The small eye on the chassis is not a recovery eye It is a lash down eye. Intended use is for lashing the Land Rover down on a trailer.

You could replace them with either forged JATE rings or the civilan welded jate rings.

If you are not intending to go offroad then you dont need a steering guard etc. Jate rings will give you towing/recovery potential at a much cheaper price.

Safari Equip are even closer to where we live Razz Was in there today having a chat. Yes they do the welded Jate Rings.

If using a bridle with the Jate rings thread the tow rope/strap onto the bridle rather then use a 3rd shackle. Much safer.

By the way have you looked at Yorkshire Offroad Club since you are in Yorkshire? Whereabouts?
