1998 Defender 110 300 Tdi CSW Epsom Green

No instructions with snorkel

I'm planning on fitting my new snorkel to my td5 tommorow, weather permitting! Although it looks pretty basic i just wondered if anyone could confirm the position of the metal plate in the picture for me please, does it go between the snorkel and the outer wing and clip over the wing and plastic housing inside?

Or does the plate go on the inside of the wing between the wing and plastic housing?
