Depending upon your real interests in whisky and touring it might be worth doing a little more research into which of the distilleries are still primarily production centres and which are really just a tourist/visitor attraction housed within a distillery building.
I was shocked at some of the admission charges for what tuned out to be a blatant sales pitch by a corporate type. It was like paying £15 to go into McDonalds and be told just how good their burgers were compared to Burger King. There are still a few distilleries where the tour is a more informal and personalised event, where you will learn more and probably have a far more rewarding experience. An example would be Knockdhu not far from Keith (but not that man from Ayr on the forum). Here you have to phone up a man in advance but this whisky is not one of the big corporate mass market brands. http://ancnoc.com/the-distillery/visit-the-distillery/ Another 'Dhu' is the Dallas Dhu Distillery near Forres. This has closed as a production centre and is now a museum but your admission fee includes a dram of a whisky that is now extinct. |

Unfortunately Bladnoch has been shut for the past 2 years.
![]() Fortunately a new owner has been found. Australian I understand and it should be back in business next year. Yes the tour was excellent it may have been a little homespun but all the better for that. Edradour is an excellent tour, just check the times, it was shut for the winter, during the week last time we visited! Caledonia is a nice tipple though. ![]() Cheers WYL ![]() 2005 R300 Keeper 2019 XC40 Shopping Trolley 2008 110 XS Utility (Friday Build) Gone! |

If you want the most distilleries in a small are, it's not Islay. Moray is the place to go. Plenty of distilleries, Aberlour and Galnfarclas are both really good. Hlenfiddixh is a bit commercialised nowadays. Depending on where you're staying, the craigellachie hotel is amazing. Recently refurbished and has an amazing whisky bar. Foods good downstairs in the Copper Dog too. Across the road from the hotel is the highlander, a whisky bar with a huge selection.
If you're up this way and planning a whisky tour, let me know the distillery and dates and I might be able to give you a lift back. That way you can enjoy the samples! |

Edradour. One of my favourites Pitlochry is a great place. The bar at the Moulin is amazing too http://www.moulinhotel.co.uk/ And some great hillwalking, mountain biking, and some great minor roads for Defendering. Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |
