If I had £80k (I really don't ) to spend on a car I'm afraid it would be a FFRR or an S-Class mercedes for around 55-60k

Unless it has some amazing extras, why pay £80K?
There are three on pistonheads now, between £62K and £67.5K. One has 869 miles, long enough perhaps for the owner to realise that they had bought a defender, not a normal suv! I am convinced there is a peak in demand now and in 6 to 12 months there will be a lot of nearly new ones up for sale, time will tell... Quite a few unsold ones at dealers, not advertised anywhere but there on sale when you go in. There was another all black delivery mileage one up at £59995 asking price that was on sale for a while at an LR dealer that has only just recently sold. 2009 SVX 90 Station Wagon |

It's not the only place the prices seem to be getting silly. Having thought I had won the Euromillions, I was perusing Bowler's new site. You can now buy a full Stage 1 Package for £20k (another £5k if you want stage 2). But if you buy the same parts from Bowler, they're only £14.5k. So does it really cost almost six large to fit some wheels, bumpers, sills and steps, couple of seats, and ECU and some sussies? 2-3 days work if you know what you're doing. Don't think so. Further, they have some silly prices. £1500 for their Stage 1 Tune which is simply an ECU remap that's £500 from BAS. And their Stage 2 is £4500 (haven't worked out if you need stage 1 first or if stage 2 is 'all in') but given some silicon hoses cost £50, a VV Turbo is £1000 and an Allisport Intercooler £500, the extra £3000 is a whole lot of rolling road tuning time. Apparently their fast suspension set up is unique to Bowler, yet built around the Bilstein B6 damper. You can buy all the parts for £1500 so where does the extra £1500 go? Sure you could find a race suspension specialist who would charge a lot less than that to get it fine tuned for you. On a similar theme their Recaro seats (cloth and leather, not full leather albeit heated) are £3600, and their Momo wheel and boss £300??? LRI do the same seats for approx £2000 and you can go to Demon Tweeks and source a steering wheel and boss for £200. So where are all these 20, 30, 40% mark ups? Just so you can get Bowler letters on your bonnet and a plaque by the gear stick? With the savings I mentioned above, pre fitting you can buy everything from Bowler or replacement sources, for just over £10k. Likely it would take a weekend to DIY fit. So £10k for a plaque? Really? There's 'heritage' and then there's 'seen them coming'. Still love their kit, and will buy most of it, but it'll be a DIY fit. The £10k saved will buy a lot of beer to dampen the ego for not having 'Bowler' on the Bonnet. So, the recent surge of interest in the brand inflating prices is not the preserve of LR. Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

80K. I would say if it doesn't leak then take it back as it's clearly not a proper Defender Any farther South and I'll need to trade the Defender in for a Landing Craft

It would seem that the black on black autobiographies are hard to sell as they are difficult to distinguish from a standard XS in santorini - but the coloured ones sell instantly.
The only extras available after choosing your colour/trim combo - where the matte Corris Grey was 3k - are dealer fit - tow hitch etc List of mine was 65100 on the nose |

The one thing that its really quite lovely on the AB is the leather interior. The roof lining, door cards and dash are stunning.
BUT then you look at the carpet edges...... No binding, no frills above standard. What REALLY annoys me is they didn't even both with a set of stainless door cill trims. Whats that to RR? £20-30? Its just weird! My dealer also told me that the two tone paint is done AFTER the original paint finish. Yep, its masked up and painted again! I've studied one closely and I have every belief thats true. In my business we always say its the last 5% of efforts that makes excellence. LR just seems to have got bored when they got to 95%. But hey they'll still sell them due to the hype around the brand. |

I though the Bowler prices were inclusive of fitting? It did used to say on their website and when I was at Bowler speaking with Jon the fitted price was no different to the advertised price? |

i do like the AB interior, but for that money it should have been a 110, would have been far more impressive. As said above they all follow the same list of mods but some just do it with better taste. Andy

The £20k for the 'package' is inclusive of fitting and VAT, but the parts can't be inclusive of fitting as they're the same price as advertised with FCX and TMD. (Unless of course FCX and TMD fit at those prices, but I don't think they do. Matt can correct me if I am wrong). So that must mean £6000 of labour. Additonally the price hikes for non-Bowler-made items such as seats and sussies make it even more costly. And when I last contacted Bowler re a couple of their items for delivery to France, no mention was made of a discount to reflect a DIY fit. As I said in my post, I understand the value in 'heritage' and that you might pay more for it, but (depending on where you source seats and sussies) you're looking at between 70-80%. That's taking the p***. When I have it, Matt will be getting the shekels if only because he prices sensibly, offers great service and a good product.....
