That would be epic. I think they're sponsored by different companies. Macaskill is Red Bull, whereas I think Brumotti is actually sponsored by Tinkoff. Maybe Tinkoff and Mateschitz should sit down and have a prodigal-son bike off...
Never realised Brumotti comes from Finale Ligure where Mrs Grenadier and I holiday each year. Will have to keep an eye out for him. Especially on the Armco (know exactly the spot, mentalist). Indeed I lost track of which trick I thought was toughest. Stoppy-reverse-downhill-backwards-wheelie perhaps? Or simply riding on the fence? But it keeps going back to the armco barrier..... You called? I have a few mates who ride trials for a living !! Hellishly talented and amazing how high they hop ! But for me, I like the 'punk rock' type of BMX... This guy is in his 40's, and rides off anything he finds...trees, bins, buildings, houses...the first couple of minutes are painful!! |

Punk BMXers, that's a new one on me. Looks like Green Day taking time out between gigs. Refreshing that they show some of the mistakes and crash and burns (does anyone remember that magazine from the 80s? ) as many of the stars want a perfect story line for their video. For anyone who's piled in on a bike/motorbike, ( ) especially on tarmac, it makes for painful viewing watching gravel-rash moments.... Monsieur Le Grenadier

Some of his crashes are epic !!
My worst single BMX crash resulted in 2 broken wrists, 2 broken ribs and a torn ear...plus concussion!! |

Never BMX'd, but had my biggest pile-in on my road bike in Spain. Fractured wrist, broken finger, dislocated thumb, broken ribs, broken toe and a gallon or two of blood as I was riding in just shorts and helmet (40c heat....). Was slip-streaming an artic when a pothole appeared. Absolutely no time to react. Hit said pothole (10cms deep) and flipped at approx 40kmh. Bish, bash, bosh down the dual carriageway. Crumpled front wheel (carbon), shattered spline on rear wheel (carbon), broken handlebar (carbon), broken pedal (Dura Ace), snapped seat pin (Carbon), torn saddle (carbon/leather), shredded shorts, ripped shoes, smashed helmet. £2000 of damage and massively bruised ego.... Oooof..that must have hurt..Slip streaming stuff is fun!!
I used to race from 1981 up to 2007.. Cycle Speedway, BMX, MTB and have raced Road also, I spent a large chunk of my life working in the bike trade... So bikes are my 'thing', I have Team GB Track riders/Mechanics/Pro's as friends, so still get involved, though I got fed up of working in the trade earlier this year. Now I just ride for commuting and I occasionally ride BMX on skateparks and street, though at 45 kids don't seem to get why.. A small kid at the skatepark said to me "I didn't know dads ride BMX'' |

That style no brains just balls! I used to ride a lot of bmx in my younger years, more of a freeride/all moutnain type of guy now. Biggest stack I was on a Pearce Cycles Uplift day in Ludlow, riding downhill, big jump, front wheel collapsed on landing, sent my head into a rock, tore my carbon troy lee d2 full face helmet. I had a friend following behind who found me unconscious, chocking on my tongue & I was also peeing myself?? I didn't really come around until I got to hospital which was via a helicopter. My body went into "shut down mode" apparently, I couldn't feel or move my legs for around 2hrs, which felt like a life time!! They couldn't get any morphine into me either, they were bending the needles trying to get them in, which has now given me a disliking to needles. Anyway, after wearing a neck brace for a few months, chiropractor sessions & some money repairing the bike I went back to that track & jumped the gap first run down....landing safely!! Lucky you, sounds like a great life. Where I live, Saint Gervais Les Bains, was used as a hill-top finish in this summer's Criterium du Dauphiné. Awesome day. Froome won the stage, destroying TJ in the process, to win the overall GC. But it was such a success it's coming back as the finish to stage 19 of next year's Tour. Cannot wait. There's three days within minutes of us, a fourth just 45mins away (good for a blast on the bike). Plus some friends and I will be doing the Etape which is based on stage 20. Epic section from Albertville to Morzine. I know it'd probably be a busman's holiday but you should get over and we could do some green-laning (of sorts) as well. Similar to that I posted on the UTMB weekend volunteers post.... http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39787....ltra+trail Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

It's called S&M... Joking aside, sounds awful. Hope you've made a complete recovery. Talking of all mountain, I'd very much like to get into Enduro out here. Stacks of almost empty trails abound. Much as for Greeni, you should head over.... Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

@Carl that sounds horrific !! You'll note I didn't ride DH, everything is so much bigger nowadays, I've had too many head injuries to risk a stack like yours... !!
Kudos to you for going back and nailing the jump though! @Grenadier...i'd be up for some laning over there for sure, though all my bikes are single speed now!! I could borrow a bike though for a spot of 'cheating' (gears) !! I may need to get some riding in too, I'm a tad 'portly' |

The cool brigade ride fixies in nearby Chamonix. And BMX's, Fat Tyre Flyers, Long Boards (especially if you're in your 40s) etc etc. If you can sport a Baseball Cap, checked short, excessive beard, sleeve tattoo and Vans, you'll fit right in. Say 'stoked', 'gnarly' and 'dude', and drive a VW Van, so much the better.
Meanwhile in St Gervais, we chill, enjoy the mountain and then sink some beers surrounded by other folk in Lycra. Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |
