Does anybody here use this company , the prices look very keen and the quality appears high ( according to the sales pitch )
One thing that does puzzle me is the shackles are rated at 3.5 ton but the straps are rated much higher ? surely that builds in a weak point or am I missing something. http://damarwebbing.co.uk/4x4-equipment/to...d-shackles |

Damar have been around for a long time.
The figure quoted for the webbing I am guessing is 14 tonne minimum break strength. If it was being sold as a lifting sling (except wrong colour) it would have a Working Load Limit of 2 tonnes with a safety factor of 7 meaning strength of 14 tonnes The bow shackles have a WLL of 3.25 tonnes. Safety factor of blue pin I believe is 6:1 so break strength of nearly 20 tonnes Different coloured pins have different safety factors orange is 8:1. Get shackles which are individually tested and certified then one shackle will be more then that Damar offering. So shackle is stronger then the straps Lifting equipment comes under strict guidelines for safety factors. Commercial winching have another set of safety considerations. Leisure 4x4 type use, no specific legislation in general to recovery equipment. HTHexplains it Brendan |
