United Kingdom 2016 Defender 90 Puma 2.2 Landmark LE Montalcino Red
You are right, I have read threads where things have been said which you know would not be said face to face
Some people are very brave behind a keyboard
Having said that the majority of people on here are very friendly and helpful
It's the same on most forums unfortunately

Personally what I can find irksome are those that purely visit the forum to look for a resolution to an issue and then have absolutely nothing to contribute until their next problem and the associated quest for a solution. Then again that is what forums are for I suppose? There were those that also just used to register to knock something on too.

I like helping people and find "Search reveals:" and a few posted links to the relevant information sought also assists those with an 'apparent aversion' or oversight in the use of the search facility, which is indeed a very useful tool.

As a forum member with a history of positive 'giving' I appreciate that you can find those who merely 'take' rather irksome.

However my resident psychologist also draws to my attention those use forums as a channel for seeking affirmation that their personal taste/choice is the 'correct' one. When it comes to subjective opinion and others not sharing their personal taste/choice they can feel rejected and bruised by the experience and respond with a sense of deep injustice.

So much easier if the question has a definitive answer like "What is the official Land Rover part number for a standard Boost alloy wheel rim on a Defender"? Nice and easy to respond to and difficult to give or take any 'implied offence'. Can also be a rather boring read for those seeking a bit more.

On the other hand, posting a picture of modified Defender with a "What do you think of my mega-cool conversion" may not always elicit the 'adoration' that the poster seeks. Or is the objective of the OP merely to seek acceptance and plaudits for their work within a cult type of environment, where criticism is not to be tolerated?

I shall return to the couch and seek further inputs from a professional psychologist.

Some of the old timers are in need of a makeover and may be returned to society eventually and some are beyond helping !

As a newbie to this site and LR I have to say that this site has been very helpful, even with my rather dumb and basic questions. Thank you. I also frequent a motorcycle forum; very helpful too but don't ask about oil or tires... that's abuse...
