After seeing your 110 with the LXV sawtooths I decided I had to have some as well for my Orkney grey 110 and have ordered them.
The problem is I am unable to source any Goodyear Wrangler duratrac 265/75 R16 tyres did anybody find any available anywhere?

not decided yet, i was really wanting the MTR's, i may end up with 235's amd spacers, wanted to avoid spacers though Confused Andy

Yeah I played the long game when it came to the Duratracs. They were only in stock for short periods of time as they sold out fast. I ended up speaking direct with Goodyear who gave me the nod when the next deliveries were going out.
My alternative was the new BFG AT (called K02 btw) but didnt quite have the attributes I was after so wouldve plumped for BFG MT in 255 size - best size for Defenders I reckon.

Good luck with the search and don't compromise on your ideal spec!

Andy I would be interested to know what attributes do the Goodyear tyres have over the BFG K02?
Why do you suggest 255 are a better size for the defender as you bought 265?
Thanks for any help you can give as I have never bought AT tyres before.

MJN110 - Ooh, tyres. A very personal decision, hence the separate Wheels & Tyres thread page with lots of opinions and some facts!

But as you asked on my thread, this was my decision making process; After several happy years with BFG MT's I was interested to try a winter rated tyre. Both the Duratrac and the BFG AT K02 are winter rated hence on the short list. However to be rated as a winter tyre means they only have clearly perform better than a summer tyre on some, not all tests consisting of; Acceleration, Braking, Steering, Lateral grip etc. Tyre companies target certain tests to pass and have different methods of achieving that either through tread pattern or rubber compound, or both. The above is fact, here comes my opinion bit..

The Duratrac is a new type of design as its only been around since 2012. This means it has benefited from modern technology and a clean sheet design. The resultant tread pattern is an interesting mix of features and caught my eye.
The original BFG AT is a really old tyre now, and the K02 version looks more like a mild facelift rather than an all new design. It may well be all new, but because they have retained the old tread pattern it doesn't look like an all new tyre and for me that was a miss.
The old BFG AT had a great reputation for longevity, but this was achieved by rock hard compounds that made it less than ideal in certain wet/icy conditions. I suspect they have changed the compound for something softer now as to be winter rated they must have changed something (and if its not the tread pattern, it must be compound!).
However whilst researching Duratracs, the only negatives I found were that the sidewalls were soft enough to be damaged on rocks. This could be indicative that the tread compound is softer, hence work better in low grip conditions.
The final clincher was that Land Rover themselves have started fitting Duratracs to some of their own vehicles, noteably Disco 4's and L405 Range Rovers.
To summarise then, I chose Duratracs because; winter rated, a new design of tyre, style, OEM approved.

So I'm essentially waiting for some icy/cold conditions to be able to test all the above out and see if my ramblings hold any truth! I may find that going wider than I wanted (Duratrac not available in 235 or 255 sizes) will negate any 'winter rated' attributes as ideally in wet/icy conditions narrow is better.
Obviously I'm not going to scientifically test this all out, but hope to drive up icy hills and say to myself "ooh that was impressive, it hardly needed the traction control" rather than "my god, I was slipping all over the place going up there"!

To elaborate on the 255 vs 265 point, I think the 255/85R16 size is the best for Defenders because its not too wide and is nice and tall. Unfortunately there aren't many tyres available in that size (its a US light truck tyre size, not a common European fitment) but the BFG MT is and having been happy with those previously I was tempted to sack off the whole winter rated thing and revert to an old favourite simply because the Duratrac is not available in that size.

Hope all that helps. As always with tyres, some fact, lots of opinion but its an ongoing experiment so looking forward to the winter. No doubt will have lit the tyre touch paper!

You have made my mind up I will hold out until I can source some Duratracs.
I also noticed that land Rover fitted them OEM
I have asked around and as of yet nobody can give me a hint of an availability date.

Not to drag us into a tyre debate but i did feel a need to comment on this

BFG AT's are possibly the best tyre ever made, for their range of applications and features - i have had loads of sets and currently running a set. They do fall off the cliff in extreme mud settings

They are winter mountain snowflake - so full winter tyres and are perfect in wet and icy conditions, great in snow, actually ive never had a problem in the wet and always amazed the difference they bring in the icy conditions. So dont link longevity and hard compound to performance.

Although this is my experience and will also be slanted by the vehicle, driving style etc but they certainly only needed a facelift not a fundamental redesign

mcma1 - Good for you. I found the date of delivery Goodyear gave me was accurate enough, infact they came in quicker. Looking forward to seeing them fitted

mse - thanks for your opinions. Just a thought though, if you've always had AT's and you're happy with them then great, but maybe you'd be surprised if you tried something else? I'm curious enough to try something new and find out. I must admit, Goodyear could do a better job on size availability. They'd probably find they'd sell more!

As I said, lots of opinions so will not turning this into a tyre debate by stating the fact that winter tyres are generally softer compounds, mainly due to more natural rubber content. This is why they wear quicker if used all year round.

I would be interested to know how you ordered your tyres for 16 December?
Where did you do this?
I have spoken to Goodyear uk today twice and they say they have no idea when they are available.
They suggested I order through a dealer but when I try to do this they say they cannot order as the UK stock is zero !
A day of going round in circles.
Help!
