Ok tried a known good relay and this makes no difference.
If I disconnect the plug to the motor assembly the fuse holds. So is it looking like I need a new motor? Thanks for the help! Much appreciated |

Wiper boxes can seize and cause the none moving motor to blow the fuse. Ray

The wipers work fine if I disconnect the relay, but it means I have no wiper park function or intermittent wipe.

The wipers are definitely not seized. When they are working they sweep very smoothly and easily and cover the area you would expect.
This Apis really stumping me. I am thinking I need to try a new motor, but trying to avoid playing parts roulette. |

I have ordered a new motor that should be here tomorrow, so I can see if that makes any difference.
In the mean time I have been trying to see if I can work out what is going on. I fitted a bulb in place of the 10 amp fuse today to see what happened. The wipers work, but as soon as the plunger on the park switch is depressed the bulb lights up nice and bright until the button is released again. I take it the bulb should not be lighting up as it is this current that is blowing the fuse? I would like to think the new motor will fix it tomorrow, but I am not very confident it will |

OK tried a brand new TRW Lucas motor and exactly the same symtoms happen!
So I seem to have got it down to there is a fault in the park switch circuit (not the switch itself as I have tried others). Thanks for the wiring diagram DorsetSmith. Can anyone guide me as to what wires should be live etc when the park switch plunger is activated? At the moment as soon as the parking switch is activated the wipers stop but the fuse blows - so clearly there is a large current being passed through the main green wire that runs through the 10 amp fuse for some reason. I thought that with the parking switch activated I shouldn't see any power on any contacts. Thanks for all your help |

I tried a new wiper stalk switch today and this has improved things, but still not right.
The new switch now works properly in that it makes the wipers park, however they now park in the upright position! I think I can fix this by moving the cam in the wiper motor, but still not sure how they can get in the 'wrong' place. I still have now wash/wipe function. If I push the button on the end then I get wash but no wipers. Both speeds of continous wiper work but no intermittent still. So I presume there is a wiring issue as I have tried every component (as far as I know) relay, motor, wiper stalk switch. |

Just thought I would update on how I fixed this as reference for others who may be looking for a solution to a similar problem.
Now got the wipers fully working today, after stripping the motor and changing the cam on the wheel so it parks the wipers in the correct place. Also found a loose wire on the back of the wiper stalk. But most annoyingly I found out that the brand new bearmach relay I had bought was duff, so with a new one in it all works fine. |
