2007 Tdci: black smoke - EGR valve replacement?

Hi

I have a 2007 Defender 2.4Tdci. When driving motorway at constant 70m/h I can see a bit of black smoke from the exhaust. Driving some miles very constant and then accelerating for overtaking; it produces a black cloud of smoke (not just a puff!). The Dealer says it’s the EGR valve which closes to slow? Could this be the cause?

The EGR valve does the ticking when switching of. When I disconnect the EGR valve; the smoke is gone; also the light smoke under constant load. But then the engine warning light coms on. So I think it’s the EGR valve. Or other sugestions?

By replacing the EGR valve I found out it should be LR006650? Should I go for a genuine Landrover? Or a cheaper replacement? Any makes to avoid?

Have you checked the turbo / intercooler hoses for splits?

Hi

Nothing to see on them. When one of them splits you normally feel a loss in power, and the engine would sound different while acceleration.

Mine drives okay; pulls fine. It drives just normal as long as you don't watch your mirror too often! I drive it already for a while like this but the smoke is just sometimes annoying. Only happens after couple of miles constant motorway driving (so without moving the throttle). In busy traffic where you accelerate and decelerate quite often it all does normal and would smoke.
