Isn't the 17ACR Lucas alternator a drop in replacement ?

Early Suffix A or B petrol engines might need a new bracket though

Not aimed at you mate but , I'm sick of this throw away world , everything ends up in the bin and oh let's buy a new one . Every last screw , bolt and piece of my 78 lightweight is Original . Nothing replaced by a britpart or eBay part . There used to be dozens of old school workshops repairing everything . My TVs blown a fuse ,scrap it buy a new one My 4 yr old cars needing repairs , £100 deposit and £100 a month gets you a new one . Sick of this throw away world . Rant over ,,,, found me an old school workshop refurbishing original car parts. Click image to enlarge |

No worries Keith, completely understand - and have just spent nine months rebuilding a suffix C gearbox - nine months because I was not prepared to fit badly made Britparts and had to wait for old stock original parts to come up on the internet.
In that case, new parts were the only way forward, as it had more or less destroyed itself. |

Totally agree about our throw away world Keith, on the other hand it does not end there, many people unfortunately these days lack the basic engineering or mechanical skills to replace anything that is not just ‘plug and play’. Gone are the days when young lads and lasses came out of school and signed on to a five year apprenticeship to properly learn a trade.
And while some may say this present government is trying to reintroduce apprenticeships many are low-level apprenticeships, such as retail and care, there are even now apprenticeships accrediting skills like making coffee and cleaning floors. Sadly people who can repair and make good are a dying breed. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at.. http://www.youtube.com/user/conwy1 |
