Replacement 300tdi engine.
ive got a 300tdi engine in my defender and when it finally goes, i would like to replace it with an engine with more power, but no ecu stuff , can anyone help ?

thanks guys, i would love a V8, you just cant beat the sound, but my defender works and plays alot, so i need a diesel engine Sad ive looked into the 2.8 tgv sounds good, but i dont know of any one local to me thats got one, so i can see how they really go and they are like rocking horse s... to find second hand !

not sure stevie-d, just thinking ahead, she,s on the original engine, nearly on 268,000 the original head gasket just went at 232,000, im hoping that i can get to the magic number of 300,000 Very Happy

What I am trying to say is that they are not ECU-less. You can probably find one from the 1980s with mechanical injection but it'd be less powerful than the Tdi.

BMW conversions have been done but it is not a straight swap no.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

ok, not so good then, i did see an articale in one of the landy books that someone had put a merc diesel engine with about 150-200 bhp, no ecu's, but needed quite a bit of moding though Sad

Could be an OM606, I believe they can be run on a mechanical injection pump.

The BMW M57 is an electronically controlled engine yes, however there is a loom available that makes it 'standalone' so easy to wire into just about any old vehicle. Think it's made by Rallyraid or someone similarly named.
