Hi all,
Just picked our keeper defender up, this is the one we are setting aside for the future (we have one of them plastic tent things for it to go in, wont be used at all) Its a 90 pickup in Montalcino red.. The deal was, we would pick the car up via trailer to put no miles on it, set off this morning to the dealership, i'd seen the car a week or so ago passing by looking very dirty for a new car, the dealership is currently under construction so i just assumed it was from the construction site Today when we picked it up, i went over it while my father finished the transaction; there were numerous scuffs and scratches on the paint work which i brought up with the dealer, he kind of just passed them off like there wasn't a problem.. the other thing was, we wanted a private plate on it from new, so this was organised and in the emails we stated we didn't want the car drilled for putting the number plate on... turn up to find both numberplate's drilled into the car. The final concern was the milage on the car... i was expecting 10-15 max but the car has done more than this... (real kick in the teeth considering we even picked it up via trailer to keep it low milage... All raised with the dealer but had a large drive back now that we are home, its really cheesing us off, do we have any comeback with the dealer or what's our best course of action? |

A new car should be absolutely spotless and just as you ordered it, with no marks scratches etc. The number plate is a dealer issue that only they can sort but should have adhered to your email.
There should be hardly any miles as you thought. Even 15 miles seems high to me. I would go straight to Land Rover via this site so they can act on your behalf with your dealership. |

Its a brand new, so you should not accept any scuffs/scratches, imo the dealer must rectify this or I believe you are entitled to return it for a full refund.

You have purchased a NEW car.
It must be as it came out of the factory. Unmarked and spotless. Hope you got some photos of the marks etc before you drove away from the dealership? Mileage should be minimal. Sorry to hear about your hassle...  Hope you get it sorted mate as it looks like a very rare Defender! Cool!  YOLO... You Only Live Once... |

Seriously bad news for a new motor of any kind, the dealer should, at the very least, be held to account not only by you but by JLR...
Personally, I would have refused to take delivery and left it with them as their problem and demanded a brand new replacement... 
Now you have taken delivery your options are somewhat limited, but you need to put everything in writing, complete with photographs and comments from the dealer, to JLR Customer Services proper, as going through this section of the site is not producing much positive feedback recently...  Rog...

Mileage of all my cars is around 5
There should be no bodywork issues in my opinion Storing a defender is bad...they don't like doing nothing...keep that in mind! Mike |

Having it sat still is going to do far more damage than a few miles on the clock, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I would not have take it off the premises,
Now the stealer has your money and you have the car they are even less likely to help sort anything? What's the score putting it in a plastic tent? to hopefully appreciate in value? Warranty will have already started to tick down... Enjoy it, |

Why? IF you long term store a vehicle correctly, and doing that properly is very important with LOTS to do, then there should be no issues at all.  YOLO... You Only Live Once... |

In all the land rovers ive had ive never had a land rover that likes sitting around doing nothing. Ive had them in garages and outside, for short and long periods in all stages new and old and they just like being used...like no other car.
I would probably buy one with a few miles on than none. Better to drive them and use them frequently - even if you store them really well they dont like it - ask car museums. The Tank Museum (who supplied the tanks for Fury) were saying a similar thing in a thing they were doing when we were there, they usually only run the tanks for a few miles, but when then ran them for hours each day for weeks they ran better than ever. Oil, warmth, fuel and lubrication all better, than cold, damp etc.

I guess the other problem with not using it, is when you do eventually drive it in 20 years time and there is a warranty issue you'll find it even harder than normal to get it fixed...
