It's starting to look like a 2007 on 2.4 with bigish miles (110-130k ) is getting close to my £15k budget for a 110CSW, There seems to be a lot of "has anyone every had a reliable Puma" type threads in here....should I run a mile and stick with plan A ( TD5 )

only joking. if it's done 100k miles then I'm sure it'll keep going for another 100k (but don't hold me to it ) good luck in finding a cracking good 2nd hand motor. as I'm sure you'll be aware pretty much anything can be sorted at sensible money due to the 'modular' design and many of the components are very reasonably priced......enjoy the whole experience. |

That's nearly run in!
To be honest you are no more likely to have issues with a high miler than a low miler, it's a Defender so "issues" come with the package. There are some things worth checking on an 07, but mileage isn't a concern. My 07 is now approaching 180,000 miles. |

If looked after the Puma engine can go well in excess of 200,000 miles.
I've worked on many Transits with that sort of mileage on the clock, and are still running really well. They never seem to lose their get up and go either. I had a 300tdi and it lost a lot of "horses" around the 140,000 mark The Land Rover running gear, again can easily cope with big mileage if looked after. Buying a Defender with 100,000 plus miles wouldn't worry me. I would be looking more towards body corrosion and general wear and tear than anything else. 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

Can you refurb a Puma engine, give it a re-bore and over size pistons like you can with other engines? Surely that'd give it another huge chunk of mileage?

I bought my 110 with 150 on the clock and I have to say I was a bit nervous but it's been brilliant, engine pulls like a train and its "characteristics" are exactly the same as those people on here who have bought new ones.

I just picked up a 110 utility for £15k inc vat on 78k miles. A bit rough but everything is stuff that is easily fixable. Does it have to be a CSW or is a utility an option? North Cumbria Search and Rescue - Team Leader

It's the rest of the car you should worry about!
That engine has been used on millions of transits around the world towing and racking up 100's of thousands of miles! Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

I've seen MY 2007 workhorses from the coal mines - at about 60 000 miles - with too much wear in the drivetrain.
A pure (poor?) 'roadrunner' shall be fine |

I don't think mileage is a measure for a TD4, how little it was cared for and how frequent it was driven is. TD4s don't like sitting around, they want action. The Puma engine is probably the least I would be afraid of. That engine was designed to power as a workhorse whore for Ford Transit and I can asure you, these have no lucky life. Beware of showboats, averaging maybe 5k miles a year, that is not a good idea, but look for the low time high mileage ones - and, most important the ones with original engine, no chipping or fooling around with a proven design! We now have experience from over 400k miles on 2.4 TD4s and I have to admit, they are much better, compared to TD5 - they just run. Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel.
