That's disappointing news JWL. I went for the KM2s as the brand BFG were synonymous with longevity from previous experience. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

I know mine carries a fair amount of weight all the time, it can be towing at near enough full capacity plus I don't hang about when I've got to get somewhere but I am starting to get a little concerned at the rate of wear. Then again they might just get to a point where they might "hang on" for ages.

I have Insa Turbo Special Track 265s. They came with the truck.
I must admit they look pretty aggressive and everyone can hear me coming

I'm surprised that they're that worn. On two occasions I managed 100k miles on the original BFG Mud T/A tyres, with enough tread leaft for them to be good on road but not much good off-road, but fully legal (about 6mm) afterwards. The first set of KM2s on my Defender I took off after 80k miles in about the same condition as the originals after 100k, so they don't seem to last as long. I don't know why it is that some people are reporting poor mileages from them, unless they are very variable batch to batch. 80k miles from a set is in my view pretty good. I suppose that it is possible that they wear at different rates according to pressures. I do run mine fairly hard on the road (36F, 46R on a 110 usually running at around 2.8 tonnes) since these are the pressures I find give even wear across the tread. I have noticed that the KM2s are far more prone to picking up stones than the original pattern Mud T/A, and the annoying clickety-click is a regular occurrence - so much so that I carry an old screwdriver by the driver's seat to flick out stones. |

Why on earth would you want mud tyres on a Defender that's never going to go off road?

just fitted 285 75 16 at ko2 to mine only been on few days now so cant comment really on performance but they do look good

Simply because "I can!" As do many others. In fact I don't need a Defender at all, did only just over 2000 miles between MOTs last year and not a single one of them offroad. Did I enjoy them miles any less than those that spend it up to their axles (and higher) in mud? Doubt it!    If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

I've got KM2's on, never found their handling a problem on the road in wet or dry conditions, carrying weight, towing. They're good off road too, although they do seem to have a little trouble self cleaning. Wear rates don't seem too bad, but I don't think I'll get 80k miles from them, certainly not keeping enough tread to make them useful off road. I've a set of BFG A/T's on the Disco 2 and they don't look as though they've worn at all in over 20k miles.
If you want to put a set of whatever tyres on, for whatever reason, then do it - it's up to you. Same as going off road or not, washing it or not, checker plating it or not, etc, etc. Dirty Deeds - Done Dirt Cheap |
