United Kingdom 2007 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 CSW Arles Blue
Engin knock
Hi all just purchased a 57 plate station wagon had it a couple of months now noticed l get knocking sound on start up only happens when engine has reached normal temp.no problem when cold,Knocks when restarted then runs ok after revving engin a few seconds has anybody had the same problem or any suggestions please.

The VCV that's on the fuel pump can fail causing this.

Thanks for replying Andy I've edited question as when l read it back it wasn't making sense it only knocks when engine is warm when you start it & Rev the engine then is only noisy for a few seconds do you still think it's the vcv

The VCV is a common cause of engine knocking, and can cause different symptoms at different times, and would be the first thing I would swap. When it fails it will cause knock but log no problem, and not bring any warning lights on. It's particularly expensive and is easy to change, BUT needs programming to the engine.
